COLOR v2 - Super Huge Detailed Map of the Warhammer Old World by Gitzman

By Gitzman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Dudes,

So roughly 400 hours after starting this project I present to you the new and improved Super Huge Detailed Map of the
Warhammer Old World... in color
!

Download at Gitzman's Gallery - WFRP Maps section.

The map is a little over 16,000 pixles by 16,000 pixles. It is a continuous map from Norsca to Khemri, from Estalia to
the Dark Lands.

Main Features:

  • A boat load of detail
  • The Island of Albion, Altdorf Region, part of Araby, Averland, The Badlands, Border Princes, Bretonnia, The Dark Lands,
  • Kislev, Nuln, Estalia, Hochland, Middenland, Nordland, Norsca, Ostermark, Ostland, Reikland, Stirland, Suddenland,
  • Sylvania, Talabecland, The Moot, The Pirate Isle of Sartosa, Tilea, Troll Country, The Wasteland, Wissenland, The Worlds
  • Edge Mountains, and more.
  • All locations, roads, cities, forests, etc. have been rescaled to be more cohesive.
  • Full color throughout.
  • Huge amounts of community feedback for correcting errors and adding new locations has been implemented.
  • Many Orc, Goblin and Skaven settlements have been included

For those of you interested in printing the map, it is designed to be printed at 300 dpi, which should yeild a map
between 4 and 4 1/2 feet squared.

While nearly 90% of this map was redrawn and created me, a very large portion of the original content and
inspiration came from the community and the following: Andreas Blicher, Alfred Nunez, JackDays, Emerikol, Sunatet, and
many, many more. My thanks to everyone who helped contribute content.

Its a large file, 100 mb PDF, and all that, so beware =). But its very cool.

Visit Gitzman's Gallery - WFRP Maps to download.

Game on!

Just have to say, great work. This is something I'd love to print, put into a frame and hang on the wall. Super great work!

Looks great ... luckily I have a large format color plotter at work :)

It's awesome Gitzmap!. Perhaps I'll to take it to the printer and print it as a poster and put it on the wall in my study. happy.gif

Very impressive! An excellent work! You can be damned sure that hundreds of WFRP-campaigns will take place on your map.

One last question: Is there something like a benchmark / scale to allocate the distances?

You know that was something im still looking into putting on there. The hard part is making one that is appropriatly sized for a map this large. That would have to be an awfully detailed and large illustration that i am not really equiped to do. We'll have to wait and see.

Now on the other hand, the Google Maps version will be updated tonight and will soon include measuring and travel time calculations built into the interface. Check back soon.

Are you talking about a simple scale or putting a grid over the entire map? A scale seems like it would be fairly simple unless I'm missing something.

(Hell, it might be there already and I just haven't zoomed in on the correct part)

BTW Nagashizzar looks like quite the trip (south-east corner) ... out of curiosity, does anybody know what it is and its story?

G

Well you just kidna hit on the point where im having a problem. If you have to zoom in on a specific point to see the scale, whats the point of having one? It will only be usefull if you are zoomed in on that one part. The only way i can see this format working is if the scale is large enough to be visible at may zoom levels, but if i do that i'll ahve this huge honking graphic scale to create and deal with.

Now an overlay would solve the problem (like you would see in Google Maps), however i cannot do that in a Jpeg or PDF document.

The Google Maps version available on Gitzman's Gallery will have a scale and measuring tools.

Gitz

Gotcha, thats why most maps have grids I guess.

You might just want to put "1 inch (or whatever) = xxx miles" next to the download button (or in the title)?

Anyway, the maps great.

Gully

You know, thats not a bad idea. Thats a lot easier than a line chart or graph or grid.

I'll include that on my first revision. Undoubtably you guys will find some errors or have requests for additions. I'll put it in then =)

Unfortunately, this won't work. One inch at maximum zoom is something different than one inch at minimum or medium zoom.

Hmmm – you could integrate a scale that goes completely around the borders of the map – something like the "kramerleiste" at boardgames. This would guarantee that the scale will be visible in most sectors of your map (and in addition, it would be a nice ornament).

Ive been waiting for this ever since I found out you were doing it. Im amazed you managed to get it done by January, most fan projects tend to miss deadlines so kudos to you sir.

Regarding a scale, I would just put a scale in the corner in case people actually do print it off in which case it could be useful.

On requests, this one is very minor but we are playing a game thats currently in Sylvania and Eshen doesnt appear on any of the maps, its mentioned in Nights Dark Masters from WFRP 2 and appears in the map in that book but not in any other map of Sylvania that ive seen.

Also I would like to put province boundaries out there as an idea. I know in our game province boundaries play a large part and when you zoom in it can be hard to tell where one ends and another begins.

Amazing job. Its people like you that really drive communities.

Kaihlik

hi gitzman, very nice work on the map, ill be sure to use it in my campaigns!

one thing though, i noticed you misspelled grissenwald (northwest of nuln) and wrote "grisenwald" instead.

but otherwise great job!

TTT has a town called Helfurt that is situated about 15 miled down the Hel River (from River Stir). On the edge of Grim Wood. It's not on all maps, but it is on two of the Silvania maps I have. :)

Eshen is featured on both these maps as well. If you don't have those maps I could send the images to you if you're interrested. They are quite detailed maps of Sylvania.

Dudes,

I'll implement those locations you mentioned into the map this weekend. I also have a short list of other locations i'd like to incorporate.

Regarding a Scale:

What i have done for now is added a pretty sweet Ruler and Planning a Course feature to the GoogleMaps version on the site. This allows you to see how far away locations are, plot courses on a road, and even tell you how long it will take you to travel there. Check it out at www.GitzmansGallery.com.

Keep the feedback coming on errors in spelling or missing locations. I will continue to add locations to the map to keep it up to date as possible.

On your map Gitzman, the river is called River Eisig. I have two maps naming the river "Hel".

Grim wood also stretches all the way down south of "Old Road" on those maps.

I have a lot of very detailed maps and I can easily send them to you if you want.

What you want to use for a scale is a unitless scale. 1:10000, or the like. Then any differences in plot size won't be a concern.

The best solution would be some kind of application that works like the google map version :)

You do know the google map version is right here right?

http://www.gitzmansgallery.com/Warhammer_Maps/index.html

I have made the changes to the rivers and added the towns you guys have talked about up to this point. I will adjust the size of the forest as well.

Gallows, please send me the maps so i can work them together. My email is on the site above.

Thanks!

P.S. Check out the measuring tools i added to the GoogleMaps version with the help a talented programer accross the pond.

Gitzman

I sent the maps to you Gitzman. Just sent you all the maps I thought you may want.

I'm in the process of implementing the changes to Sylvania and Troll Country/Kislev as we speak. I've also planned a few other minor upgrades.

More info soon

The work u done on this is so faboulous i feel shamefull for asking this: there is a way to have the "google map" frame full page size?! directly in google map or the like?
