I also like ToI as it seems to have shifted the balance of the game back towards the middle as upposed to in the overlords favor with the previous two expansions.

Tomb of Ice, because it's very hero-friendly and has playable quests.

RtL, though its more of a 'different game, same engine', than just an expansion.

By several orders of magnitude...

It is however, greatly improved I think by incorporating most of the other expansions (everything that came out earlier, and the bits of ToI that ToI says put in - working on a way to get Feats into RtL as well...)

i havnt played TOI but up until now i actualy didnt play an aexpansion yet just played with RTL and basic game

we are planning to start trying out the expansions

the only problem i got is that the OL deck keeps getting bigger :-)

i just trow all the cards on the pile (exept for treachery ofcourse)

Tomb of Ice! We just played it two days ago for the first time. For the first time ever, Descent seemed evenly matched between the heroes and the OL. This was using the other expansions as well (excepting RtL which I don't like in the least.)

I just got Basic Descent for my sons for Christmas. They are enjoying it very much. So am I, as I play it with them. We'll be getting an expansion or two within the next few months. It seems like RTL is a favorite, but my question is, MUST the expansions be bought and used in a certain order, or are they able to stand alone with the base game.

They are all designed to be stand alone use with the core game. There are some parts of RtL that rely on you having the other expansions but if you are playing just the core game then it doesn't really matter which one you buy first. A lot of people seem to favor Tomb of Ice lately, but I would go for Road to Legend.
