I just have to say..

By GrandClam, in Tannhauser

I got the new rules and Reich expansion yesterday....

COMPLETELY, UTTERLY-AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was only one match, but I didn't have ANY of the problems people were bringing up. Reinforcement rules= perfect, command points= perfect, health=perfect, teams= same as they were- was nothing to worry about, Yula= much better.

On the other hand, I hate what they did to Gorgei. Let's face it, he was everyone's favorite character. Seems to me that he's just a glorified trooper now.

but every cloud has a silver lining.....................

PAGE 31!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MATRIARCHY TROOP TEASER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahaha, awesome. I never noticed those girls. I wonder why the Matriarchy is mostly women. I understand the meaning of the word and all, but where are the dudes?

I don't mind, I like the girl only force. I wonder if most of the Russian men are dead or something?

Cool teaser, though.

Actually, page 31 contains a picture of Eva Kramer in her winter gear and an unnamed Matriarchy Hero character, neither are troops, and given FFG tendancey to reuse art it probably doesn't mean much.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

To add - it would be great if FFG to issue Winter Packs for MacNeal and Eva with minis, character sheets, tokens....

The tokens for MacNeal "Winter Pack" is in the Hoax Single Pack. No alternate card or mini though.

That is a little extream, don't you think?

No I do not. I was pretty excited about the "matriarchy troops" especially because I thought the Iron cross was a Medic symbol. Now I have to face the horrible truth that I'll have to look at voivodes for god knows how long.

In another note, are you the guy who made the phantom divison pack? I want your opinion on an idea. After seeing this At-43 officer chick on Doc Savage's blog, I bought it cuz it looked great for matriarchy like he said. Seeing as they made Gorgei much less effective, I was thinking of making this new character "Natia Volkov" or something. The main point of the character would be to slightly boost the usefulness of Gorgei-

she'd have an ability or special called "sibling rivalry" and whenever Gorgei causes a wound during a turn, she gets a stat bonus or reroll bonus or something for the rest of that turn. Then I figure she could have a gun with either a flamethrower or grenadelauncher attachment (which I suppose wouldn't take up an equipment slot)

thoughts/ideas?

I wasn't insulting, I was just correcting the comparison of how you killed my mood.

automatic wounds on the matriarchy would be hardcore, I don't even want to think about it. Game I played in today tested out the new Russians...

Reich=obliterated totally. They only destroyed a voivode, put a wound on gorgei, put a wound on Irishka, and when it was the last Reich model left on the board and cornered; a shocktruppen decided to put three wounds on Zor'ka with a single Mp40 attack on overwatch.

I suppose matriarchy isn't overpowered though, I think you could contribute alot of their major loss to the fact that Heizinger used Patmos amulet on Gorgei twice (even boosted his mental stat on the second try) and failed both times. Also, my friend was trying out a Reich combat combination which required the reich to stick together for heizinger's combat bonus- when that's the last thing you want against Zor'ka.

Anyway, what does Vodka do? I have very slow internet, and I didn't want to load the whole page.

It allows her to increase her Combat and Stamina values to six, but at the end of the turn she gets a hangover and suffers an automatic wound. That's the gist of it, used properly it can be a big help as it does not require an action.

Aw Neato! I think I'm gonna use that, but change it alittle. Something like, can shake up to 2 wounds with CP for as many turns as she has health levels.

In fact there is a good number of Matriarchy characters concepts in the Novgorod book. However there is no indication that FFG will ever use them as inspiration for new Single Packs. As Miah said, there's a lot reused art in Tannhauser these days and it's something FFG is used to do in other products too.

Again keep in mind that the focus on the Voivods was something that was pushed by the former IP holder Take on You and FFG may have other plans for the Matriarchy. Only time will tell.

Lets also not forget that FFG switched out MacNeal's "Lets Go! Follow Me!" with "Moving Target" ><
But hopefully this means that Eva Kramer's winter pack tokens will be included with Hoss or Oksana.

I'm also curious as to these "new rules" outside the book included in Daedalus, is there another rulebook that I dont know about? I have the Revised Edition book, but I didnt notice the so-called "Matriarchy Troop teaser"...or am I missing something?

Miah999 i didn't find it offensive, it seemed rather funny when you so mercilessly killed his hopes for trooper pack :) , but nevermind that.

I like the idea of voivodes a lot, if new troopers for matriarchy I would want another type of "robot" so the style and feel of matriarchy would stay same.

I was actually thinking that too, except a big robot instead of abunch of little ones. Maybe guardians for a new god-character that take up 2 troops and 1 hero slot, or just one big guy that takes up both troop slots.

Back in the original Novgorod booklet there was some illustrations of some kind of Troopers. I'll try to scan and post them tonight.

Your the second person to say that, but my copy of the rules (from the FFG version of Novgorod, 2008) doesn't have any "fluff" art, beyond the character images.

Back in the days, when FFG released Novgorod there was a talk about how the fiction parts were removed from the Novgorod booklet. I guess that the illustrations were removed too.

Anyhow I'll try to give you as much informations as I can as soon as I return home.

Thank you Plageman, your always very helpful.

so here are the pictures and their subtitle from the original (ToY) Novgorod booklet

Phantom_Division_ORB.png

An ORB (whatever it is) from the Phantom Division

Streltsy_2.png

Streltsy during Operation "Golden Horde" looking for the sepulcher of Khan Mamaï in the ruins Caffa. Part of this illustration can be seen at the bottom of the p.31 of the Revised Rules alongside a picture of Eva in Winter Gear.

Other illustrations of unnamed characters were shown in the work in progress section of the late Take On You website.

phoca_thumb_l_th-mat0002.jpg

phoca_thumb_l_th-mat0003.jpg

Part of this illustration can be seen at the bottom of the p.28 of the Revised Rules

Finally according to former Novgorod Manual the pictures in th bottom of pages 61, 63 and 79 of the Revised Edition are respectively

  • Prototype 12.02 of the Magnifier from 1931
  • Battle Armor Vetchorka - Model 06.08 - Telluric Monastery of Tomsk
  • Battle Armor Poloutnotchka - Model 27.02 - Telluric Monastery of Kolgouïev

Again these are information from before the IP was sold to FFG so what they will do with this is unknown.

Well then, I guess Grand Clam was half right, one was a Matriarchy Trooper.

I'm feeling like I've missed out on somthing by FFG cuting all that from the Novgorod manual.

Thanks again.

wooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!!! Neato!!! I really like the male Streltsky, the female's gun is freakin' awesome tho. I really hope they use them, seeing as they already have art and fluff and all that- but it seems really doubtful. Looking at them, Miah's phantom division wasn't far off. I could always just buy the troopers he used, add some greenstuff trenchcoats and voila!

Just wondering if they fixed Zor'ka in any of the updates. I played against her twice and lost miserably with a friend who owned this game. He even admitted she's overpowering.

I don't think she's overpowering. I'll try to help you with what I know, though.

1. Use the Union, their hefty firepower makes little threat of the matriarchy. Union has John, Barry, and Tala- characters that can easily dish out as much pain against Zorka. If you can't put wounds on Zorka with any of those characters, I'm sorry, but you SUCK at rolling dice. If you're Reich, try using overwatch- Wolf and 2 shocktruppen= alot of friggin' dice whenever matriarchy wants to show their face. Matriarchy has much higher mental values, but heizinger can still be nasty.

2. Zorka is like any big baddie supported by other chars in any game ever made, kill her little buddies first. Frankely, Irina is paper-thin and gorgei is merely a shocktruppen by another name. Think ahead like chess, too. Using a grenade on a voivode might seem like a waste, but I highly doubt your opponent is going to use their scarce powers to heal a single voivode. (Unless you're reich, reich will probably need their grenades for Zorka)

3. Utilize bonus tokens. Union and Reich get quite afew, matriarchy gets none.

4. Know when to pick stamina packs. Zorka is going to use awakening on you, simple as that. You'll never be prepared for it, but if you can survive it- you have the advantage next turn.

5. By her lonesome, Zorka SUCKS. She gets one close-combat attack with 4 dice. Strosstruppen have packs that give them 6 dice with only 1 less CV.

6. Use the Union . I've found that in both versions of the game, because of the army-specific tactics, that Union has an advantage against Matriarchy- Matriarchy has advantage against the Reich- and Reich has advantage against the Union.
