The purpose of Tala in a union group?

Ok, with Hoax in the mail i really dont see any purpose at all to include Tala in the union team ever again. Her abilities have always seemed rather weak compared to McNiel and Barry and even Ramirez seemed a more interesting choice then her.

Besides the TnT which is a one shot thing that may or may do some damage depending on the opponents luck with the shock rolls and the brushing off of one wound, what exactly is supposed to be her role in a team? Any strategies or hints that would make her a more viable character in my playgroups eyes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I know how you feel I've had Hoax and Ramirez for a little while now and Tala is seeming far less desirable. But there are scenarios where her skills may be needed and there is the fact she has a pack with two medical items, so she can act as a "medic".

I prefer Ramirez, too. But when equipped with the Combat pack she can throw her TNT and THEN attack with extra ammo for 5 successes + 5 dice attack against one single opponent: high chances of a kill ( my favourite target is the Stoss ).

After that "glory moment", she is almost worse than a commando...

Since i prefer objective game mode rather than deathmatch, she has nice selection of skills that are quite useful. And also i've used TNT for blocking some path (placing two foor tokens (rubble toknes? i dunno)) and successfully making path +3 to move. :)

I agree that Tala has a good secondary role as a healer and for objective / scenarios she has a good selction of speed ans moves faster than Barry in core group.

I found that grenades are much better in this one, seeing as you can throw them slightly off-path, there's no minimum distance, and you can throw them directly on an enemy character. Wounds are nasty in this version, so anything that does automatic is pretty boss. statistically speaking, Tala's grenade does 1 automatic wound. I always use her stamina pack. So now you have a character with a useless gun and is free to search boxes, and can wait around healing your troops until the opportunity arises to hit 2 enemies with her grenade.

She is probably the hardest character in the game to use, but other than Barry and Macneal and heizinger- she has the highest probability of one-hit killing someone. Personally I never use her, but on the other hand- Zermann is a BEAST in the new version, but I imagine an even stronger grenade would take care of that little problem.

I also use the Iikaah with her. It gives any union troops sharing a path with the artifact a +1 to stamina. This can be huge, especially if you get surrounded or are playing domination or flag. That in combination with her Stamina pack, and the tactics highlighted above, actually make her pretty decent. She's almost purely a support character, with one big attack.

I'm glad there is a semi active community for this game. It's a cool game, with an excellent world.

The community went slightly dormant beteween the release of the last Classic Single pack and the later release of the Revised Rules. However since last Spring there is a surge of community-created content as shown on Doc Savage and Miah999 blogs.
