That's just the Knight vs. Lovecraft principle in effect. We all expect the "good guys/heroes" to win, but how can one really win against a being that is completely alien? In a way that's what this game is about, not winning, but rather experiencing the mythos created by Lovecraft and others, in a way that is more direct than say, reading the The Shadow Over Innsmouth a hundred times.
