Newbie question deluge.

By greendoor, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello everyone,

I'll get right to my questions:

1. Can Viserion's ability (or anyone's ability) be used while that character is kneeling?

2. Why does Bones of a Child say "cannot be saved"?

3. If a player loses a military challenge, can that player choose a character with "save from being discarded or killed" as his or her victim of the loss?

Thank you so much for your time.

1. Yes. The only time a kneeling characters ability would be unusable is if they had to kneel as part of the cost of their ability.

2. To keep you from keeping it on the table using card effects when you use it's ability.

3. Yes.

Thank you for the quick reply.

It may look silly, since it's a cost and if it's not discarded you didn't pay the cost. However if you look at old cards like Traveling Jeweler it makes sense.

This is the wrong point to bring up in a "newbie questions" thread, but there is some doubt - given the timing structure - whether or not you would have the opportunity to save something that is discarded or killed for cost.

Mostly, I think the "cannot be saved" text is included in costs that include killing or discarding a card so as to clarify the fact that the kill or discard must happen in order to pay the cost and to reduce the number of times people ask if the can save the card when they trigger the effect.

Indeed, I forgot that. But why did you say "doubt"?

Too bad then, since many cards don't have these words.
