next expansion

By loken14, in Talisman

wat do u guys think the next expansion will be and when will it come out according to the past philosophy it should be a 40 dollar board expansion in may

3ed Talisman had Dungeon , Mountains (HighLand), Forrest and City .

I think this one will follow in it's shoes. So it may be a Forrest or City.

Cheers

I hope it will be City, theyll have hard time making it playable, unlike the 2nd edition City. Forest wouldnt be much of a new stuff, we need somewhere to spend gold. Higher level characters were a good idea though, but it must be made more balanced this time, well, unlike the Archmage was.

Unless FFG has a surprise for us, I imagine it will be the City or the Forest.

As much as I'd like it to be the City next, I'm curious what they'll do with it since I thought the 2nd Edition City was largely a mess, I expect it will be the Forest.

i never play any other version of talisman the revised 4th is my first so pardon my naievity but wat made the archmage so op

because..

all you had to do was visit a magical shop, or whatever it was called and deliver ONE magic object and then.. voilá, youre the archmage, and noone else can become one

Archmage

CRAFT +2

You alway have at least 2 spells, anytime you have fewer, draw enough to have at least two

Each round you can transport one spirit from one space to an adjacent one.

You CANNOT become a toad

If you meet the strangers Magician, Wizard and the other one, who gave a gift to anyone with craft >3, theyll become your followers, each one adding +1 to your craft

you cant wear any armour

if a spell has been cast on you roll a die:

1) it is reverted back to the caster

2) the spell doesnt work

3) the spell doesnt work and you can take the spell providing you have enough craft (and while not written, you dont already have 3 spells)

4-5) it works just fine

6) collateral damage, apart from the spells effect, you lose additional life

There's a list of all four of the "upgrade" characters here:

I really hope they improve and tidy them up a little. Many of their abilities target specific cards from other expansions which you might not own or want to use. I'd like to see them made a little more useful with more generic and usable abilities. Equally though, I'd like them to be better then the ones that were featured in the 3rd Edition.

It would also be nice to have a way of stripping a player of his upgrade. Instead of making them a upgraded character, maybe their could be a Title card instead which adds the extra abilities. Just a thought.

I'd also like to see new upgrades in future expansions as well. Like the Champion of Chaos, but ones that are actually good! The ones from White Dwarf 115 really were terrible!

Maste-level Characters

These are no "upgrade" characaters! The official name is Master-level Characters. In the 2nd Edition City Expansion there are Master Thief, Sheriff, King's Champion, and High Mage. An Archmage never existed, it's fiction. Some additional Master-level Characters you can see in the White Dwarf 115, Templar, Herald, Mystic, and Champion of Chaos.

persoally i think the white dwarf ad 2nd edition ones are nicer than the 3rd edition ones but since i never played them i really cant tell. I was also thinkin it would be cool if they made a smaller 25 ollar expansion that would give more adventure cards for the dungeon or the highlands

Calm down, mate, I got another language version, where hes called Archmage, if translated to English. And so are all your master-level characters, if I were to translate them back to English, Id call them upgrade characters, or higher level characters, I dont know the original name, you can tell by his special abilities I wrote down, its just my translation from Czech.

yea due y u mad he made a moinor mistake and we all got the point but i guess since the toad is so weak in revised 4th as i was only turned into once out of like 6 games the arch mage just dibt seem that op in fact i sort of like him and want to play him but with these upgrade characters do u also keep the original characters abilities or did you lose them

I'd be very interested to see how they create another corner board for the City. As Cruen said, they'll have a hard time making it playable. The 3rd edition City board was very ordinary with character movement & the 2nd edition cards did not transpose well at all to 3rd edition.

Unlike the Highlands or Dungeon board, there is a necessary complexity with the City. Lots of things happen at once. I think some type of theme is necessary.

The game developers will certainly earning their money to come up with something that fits in well with the game they've already established.

I can't really see the new City board being that difficult to create. If you think of the Dungeon board, but instead of it being one long line think of it as a circle, starting and finishing at the entrance. The shops could be along the middle line section, or easily interwoven along the top and bottom lines for wiggly streets. I think it will be pretty easy to create overall.

You keep your previous abilities.

I wouldnt mind seeing a city expansion. I remember always trying to rush to become the Archmage or the Sherif. I never got a chance to become the King's Champion >_<.

I also loved those city rules where you could get arrested for not having gold, being the Troll, Chaos Warrior, the ghoul and a few others, fighting etc.

Still, im sure FFG will do a good job as usual ^_^

yes i mean they could have a stables card out side the city so u couldnt bring your horses in the city

Creation of the board isn't so difficult. Creation of cards that truly give a City feel - think Cenaria City or Ankh Morpork or Cimmura, that's more complex & takes more work. I look forward to see what happens.

Both The City and The Forest have been a bit weak in my opinion, so I hope the 4th edition versions have more to offer.

i think the revised 4th will at least update and fix some of the cities and forests weakness

l would love to see additional highland and dungeon cards added each time we get a major and minor expansion. ln much the same way we get additional spells and adventure cards each expansion.

This will keep the corner expansions fresh and new, at the moment you know the areas and what comes out and the decks are small enough so all cards pretty much come out each game unlike the adventure deck which is big so you never get the same feel from that deck each game.

keep up the good work all concerned with this great game.

We just finished an all nighter 8pm to 5am gamers never die they just get older ;)

it will also allow them to bring newer ideas to the corners that were added to the game in the sacred pool like netural characters strenght and basic character alignment

More cards for the Dungeon is always welcome gran_risa.gif

The dungeon needs more traps, events, to make it a adventure..

They "delayed" announcement of this year's big talisman expansion makes me a bit worried. I'd be very much relieved if we were at least told that it's coming at some point. It would be terrible if Talisman died when the expansions to come are the more exciting ones.

On a different note, at the end of talisman's expansion cycle I would love FFG to publish an expansion expanding all expansions (like what they are doing with arkham horror) with new dungeon, highland, etc cards. It would be a great opportunity to bring some interesting elements of later expansions to the older ones. For instance, there is no reason why trinkets should be something exclusive to the highlands. I would just as well expect to find some fancy gem in the dungeon as I would in the highland. What about adventure cards that interconnect, say the dungeon- with the city-board? Plenty of opportunities for cool stuff!

I wonder why it is delayed..

The first news for the Dungeon and the Highland were both in February.

Maybe that there is a chance that we get the City, and FFG needs more time to work on it..

I don't think that it will die gui%C3%B1o.gif
