The Emperor Protects

By CaptainLoken, in Deathwatch

Just wanted to share a REALLY cool game moment with the community.

My group just finished Final Sanction. Really fun game.

Anyway, at the end of the game, our party is confronted by a Brood Lord and 6 Genestealers. Our party is made up of:

Ordo Xenos Inquisitor Psyker (our female player)

Ultramarine Apothecary

Ultramarine Tactical Marine

Iron Hand Techmarine

Space Wolf Assault Marine (Not a Sky Claw, however)

Strom Warden Devestator

Needless to say, it started looking very grim for the party. Iron Hand and Space Wolf were down and out of the game. They would be dead, but the players burned a Fate Point, keeping their characters alive.

The Inquisitor is under attack from a Genestealer. The Genestealer has 3 attacks, but the Inquisitor only has one Dodge/Parry. The Inquisitor is really hurt. 1 more hit, and she could die.

So, the Inquisitor activates her Personal Demeanour: Pious. (The GM allowed her to have this in order to help her hang with the Space Marines.) She prays to the Emperor to help her smite her foe. The group agrees that she gets to double the effectiveness of her attack. She swings, and hits the Genestealer...only to watch her attack get parried.

All seems lost. The Emperor has forsaken his loyal child. The Genestealer then makes his 3 attacks. The Genestealer has a 75% chance of hitting the Inquisitor. The GM rolls the dice..."00", "99", and "80 something". 3 complete misses.

We were all roaring with laughter. The Inquisitor survives. The Genestealer is destroyed. The Broodlord is put down. The planet is saved. The party survives.

It looks like the Emperor really does protect...

Very cool. Only just remember this: a Demeanour should trigger something cool even if your dice fail you. This time the dice went on to save you in a very pleasing manner but still I feel compelled to point this out because next time (heretical just to think that?) it might not be so. Hope your GM thinks of that.
