Well as promised I finished the main paint job on him.

He is far from done,now begin the fun process of weathering with oil paints and powders.

Groundwork still needs work too.

What I did do yesterday was give the big guy an oil filter wash.

I used 5% oil paint 95% odorless thinner

The first was an Olive Green wash

Second was a yellow wash for the upper surfaces where the sun hits.

Third a Blue wash to the under sides where shadows would form.

This I let dry for a day and a half , two days.

After it is completely dry I hit the model with a satin coat of Future Clear Polish for the next step

Oil Dot Filtering/fading

It is a **** shame my camera ran out of juice for the dot filtering.

But you cannot leave the oil paint on too long or it will stain.

I have been weathering him with MIG rainmarks and old rust powders with a small touch of new rust for the bright orange

Here is the next model in my line up and a kit that anyone who is playing homegrown rules should get.

This would be the state of the art regular US tank the M26 Pershing which latter on with a more powerful engine becomes the Patton tank.

The bottom half is finished,I need to do the top half,It is easier to weather and mud up with the top separate.

The unfinished barrel is just there to show you what the tank is supposed to look like.

But I can paint the barrel separate,I begin work on the top chassis tomarr

Here is the top chassis with base coat,oil filters and barrel camoflauge.

Later Sherman had longer barrels with way more punch.

The Tankers would use this camo sceme to give the impression of the smaller barreled older model so they would be more foolish.

I used Testors Model Master Enamel Olive Drab as the base with Faded olive drab highlights.

I then used Cromate Green and Transperant Red Oxide filter washes to add life to the monocolored tank.

I used Procreate putty to make a mantlet cover for the turret,using a mechanical pencil for the fasteners

Here is the M26 Pershing Finished and ready to go.

I weathered it using a 80/20 mix of Tamiya X20 thinner and Tamiya Buff for the lower chassis.

I then lightly coated the tank in Europe Dust and Industrial Dirt by MIG productions.

And if you are wondering why I have not messed with the tanks that ome in the box set,there is good reason.

I plan on totally repainting it with a finish like Kilroy but to do that I need to wait for the Dust decal set to arrive so I can remark the vehicles when finished.

I also have bought a couple of true metal barrels to try out but that order has been in "Process" for two weeks now.

Slow week this week,I made the mistake of not using plastic glue on the tiger kit and using super glue

The results are less than spectacular,but I did recieve my DUST 1/48 axis and allies transfer pack which is essential if you want the deluxe models look and feel.

Here is a Sarge and Trooper both with circle in star on right shoulder and on the left handpainted Ranger tabs and the sheet has 3 Sarge stripes so I slapped one on.

I also changed the white coats to Brown Violet which is more authentic for US winter gear.

What is a filter wash?

I am familiar with standard washes and inks, but I have not heard of a filter wash.

I received the decals too, I think they are great. Can't wait to put them on the soldiers.

A filter wash is a very low color to thinner ratio that goes over a matt surface to give a monochrome color a slight tint

I like to use oil paint for my filters and use 5% paint to 95% odorless thinner.

I use yellows and lighter colors for the upper surfaces and blue and burnt umber for lower shadowed areas.

I think its great you are going with camo paint schemes. Im going to try to bulk out my army with standars schemes until i get a good sized force to play with. Then ill add the cool stuff later. Anyway nice stuff.
