BigWills Dust Models

By BigWill, in Dust Tactics

This thread is a place for me to show off my Wip on the models I use for this game.

I plan to use many of Tamiya's models to bulk out my kit,so expect interesting things.

Like some I am running with the late 40's with a good helping of Super and Mad Science thrown in for good measure.

I have started painting my boxed set and for the Germans I went with an SS theme.

Not that I love Nazi's or anything but logically this kind of gear would only be the the hands of the elite, and for Germany that was the SS.

I went with a different camo type each unit, for the Recon Grenadiers I went with Autum pea dot,the Battle Grenadiers are in Winter smocks with regular pea dot pants, and the Laser Grenadiers are in the traditional Field Grey.

And here are the beginning stages of my Airborne Rangers

I like the autumn pea dot. I think that turned out really good.

all of these look good, but the Autumn Pea Dot is incredible. Please post the "recipe" you used to paint the Recons. What exact colors / steps and process did you entail please?

The easiest way to get all the colors at once is to buy Flames of War German SS paint set,in truth the Flames of War series is all you need for Dust.

But it is Vallejo paint but I will give the GW equivilent,

The base is German Camo Pale Brown(825)((Khermi Brown))

Then I paint patches of Light Brown(929)((Solar Mecharius Orange)) and random dots in between the patches

Then I paint patches of German Camo Black Brown(822)((Scorched Earth+Chaos Black 50/50)) touching the Light Brown patches.

I paint randon dot of German Camo Black Brown making sure to place dots inside of the Light Brown Patches.

Then I take the Light Brown again and paint dots of it inside the Camo Black Brown Patches.

Just fantastic, hopefully I should be able to start on mine today

Well I was working on some Unoffical TOP SECRET uber unit from our boys at Los Alamos.

I do not want to copy Fallout but unless someone can come up with a better name

I started working on the blueprints for Liberty Prime in scale

005-31.jpg

Funny thing when making pictures in scale it is not much of a jump from drawing the pieces to fabricateing them.

Looks like the robot from the movie "Iron Giant". cool.gif

I just though of the perfect name for him.

Kilroy

I have his name

It's Kilroy

Kilroy

kilroy...

Mr.Roboto not withstanding, that is a cool Liberty Prime, but Killroy is going to blow his doors off.

That's right boys we have recieved supplies of rationed steel and the boys at Los Alimos are hard at work.

There might even be pics tonight.

Infact here is a teaser

The chest is being reworked to have angles and slopes

to deflect incoming rounds.

Here is Kilroy starting to come together.

He is a 30 foot tall robot built to 1:48 scale

Hey can I put some of this stuff on my blog?

Absolutly,we need more people in this community.

Any bit helps.

Now I have to finish the arm and begin the thankless task of adding rivets :(

Well I was going to just add your dust models until you get that done.

or do a work in progress and show whats ya got also.

By the end of the night Kilroy will be finished and primed.

Here is a shot of what he looked like a couple of hours ago,he has since had a few hours of detailing done to him.

I added weld lines on the main chassis and reworked the eyes into a much more pleasing form.

The rear exhust covers are Tamiya barrels sanded down with the battery off of a GW Predator tank.

It might be past some of your bedtimes but I have finished the build on the Kilroy Prototype Killer 30ft tall robot.

This marvel of engineering came straight from Los Alamos made with plans draw up by none other than Albert Einstein and Nicholi Telsa .

Nice! Looking forward to seeing it painted!

Well he is the first painting stage what I call the material stage.

This is where I paint him up as he was unpainted right off the the assemby line.

So I used Alclad II Steel and Copper to act as a first coat.

I then very sparingly hit him with a sponge(green scrubby)of masking fluid.

006-29.jpg

Will you be building up the leg armor?

Not on this one.

I know it shows it on the plan, but it seemed more 1950's without the armored legs.

Well I used Tamiya Hull Red to prime him once the metal dried.

When armor comes off the line the first thing they do is hit it with a Red Oxide Primer and that is what I have done here.

I then once again sparinly hit him with making fluid.

007-28.jpg

I then used Testor Model Master Olive Drab and painted him up in many light layers as opposed to all at once.

Check tomorrow your robot will be on the blog.

Very cool looking model.

Do you have an idea on some stats for him? Are you staying with just CC weapon for him or any range weapons in his future?

The right arm is a Disintergrator cannon, and of course friken laser beams for eyes.

Well, of course

Can't wait to see the stats
