Common and exotic goods

By Der_Berserker, in Rogue Trader

Salve!

Our group is searching for common and exotic goods to trade. It's nice to have something up one's sleeve when trading. Always spices or amasec is boring.

Greetings

What exactly are you asking for? There's a list of items of mostly cosmetic value in the core book and an expanded list of drugs in Into the Storm, if you're looking for more than the core book's inventory.

I have a lesser endeavour focussed on commodity trading as a beginners guide to that aspect of larger Endeavours.

Generally I see goods in three broad categories: Commodities, Luxury Items and Arms. Examples are shown below:

Commodities

- Water

- Grox

- Rations

- Oxygen

- Indentured Labourers

Luxury Items

- Amesac

- Fruit

- Silk

- 'Luxury Food Stuffs' (Roes, Olives, anything that requires stasis storage due to being perishable)

- Skilled Indentured Workers

Arms

- Body Armour

- Legal Firearms (may vary by system)

- Melee Weapons (legal on most Imperial worlds)

- You get the idea...

As for how you make a trade mission interesting, that is up to you. I tend to aim for a focus on attempts from the competition to outbid you, undercut you at destination or to knobble your ability to buy or transport your goods. Things such as "Excuse me officer," *tips a handful of thrones stealthily onto the desk* "I am of the opinion that honoured Captain Trask is dealing in contraband substances." with all of the resultant fallout and attempts by the explorers to escape/clear their name and possibly find out who set them up.

Whatever you do, good luck!

Don't forget bulk manufactured goods:

Prefab structures or building materials

Vehicles and heavy construction equipment

Power generators

Water purifiers and/or pumps

Air scrubbers

Environmental controls (large-scale heating or cooling)

Food storage/prep equipment (refrigerators and ovens, etc.)

Assorted parts for any of the above

Fuel for any of the above

That's great. Thank you! :)

if all else fails, make something up. Maby the missionary invents a new dish while trying to cook( roast squig) that ends up being a hit a dinner partys. wild beasts from a death world. if it will fit in the cargo hold, someone will buy it.

Hah, maybe, there may not be much of a market for sterile soil from the surface of some moon. ;)

maybe not, but there might be a market for rogue psykers, the chaos reaver ships might be full of them. on second though, you could always sell the moon instead of just the soil. not sure. what else to throw in the cargo hold? would a standard construction template fit it a cargo hold?

Depends on the storage medium, but probably. In theory, an STC template (or even a template library) could be stored electronically on the 40k equivalent of a USB stick, or it could be written upon ream upon ream of parchment, or even engraved into marble tablets.

A Standard Template Constructor (working or not) might fit into a cargo hold (probably fit almost exactly into the cargo hold of some of the older ship designs- a Galaxy class, for instance), but it would depend what said STC was for.

Slaves.
