[POLL] What's your current favorite career and why?

I've only Gm'ed thus far, but if I get the chance to play I'd like to give the apprentice wizard a go (hopefully i'd be lucky enough to get it). I really like the spellcasting mechanic, it seems really fun, plus the potential side-effects seem great.

Come to think about it, I'm guessing there are mostly just GMs here. I'd be hard pressed to pick one out because each has so many possibilities and I haven't played any for much time. I guess I'd have to go with the more unique priest or wizard classes.

The Ironbreaker is hard to argue with...it makes for a very very tough warrior.

Witch Hunters, because they are cool, themathic and I've allways loved them. ;)

If you go for power/maximize char, then Iron Breaker, or Grave Robber (Disciplin AND Resilience on one career...).

But if I were to play a char myself (I GM usually, when I have time...), I'd go for smuggler or Agent.

The career I like more is the THUG.

Dwarf if possible.

Victimizing the people you just saved from Chaos cultist would be lovely and is also a great career.

Rat Catcher, this is the type of class that defines warhammer against more standard fantasy games.

Seconded. And it has a COOL vicious b*stard of a dog too. *thumbs up*

Smuggler is good...but I think a dwarven dockhard has got roleplaying potential all over it.

Um dockhard?? Is that a freudian slip? I mean dockHAND sonrojado.gif

I Gm mostly, but i would have to say one of the most amusing characters i have seen played is a Commoner.

I keep looking at Forger, but I think it may be way too specialized for most campaigns.

jh

Mechanically I'd go with Wardancer or Swordmaster. The way their action cards act together is just a lot of fun. I just love the flow their actions build in combat it's like a mini-game itself and thematically they mirror their mechanics.

But for bog standard all around favorite probably a Grey mage. They won't stand to toe-to-toe with many other classes but when played creatively they bring all sorts of awesome. They are like the Ninja's of WFRP.

For sheer versatility, I like the Thief.

For flavor, I rather like the Roadwarden.

One of the players in my group wanted to be the GM for a while, so I played a Scribe during a short adventure. I must say I had lots of fun with that career. It let me be a know-it-all while being weak coward due to low Willpower and fighting abilites. (I gave my character 5 in Intelligence which made all other stats suffer.) This career puts you in the role of a kind of servant, however, but I don't mind.

Another career I would like to play is the Dilettante. Playing as a spoiled son of a noble is something I've always wanted, and the career in itself isn't too bad with it's ability to once per session count as trained in a skill or able to use an advanced he doesn't have.

Roadwarden here. I have one particular story about him that came up this weekend, but it contains spoilers so I'll have to leave it for the GM's board. OVerall though, I like the style of the career and the flexibility, not to mention that I've played him as an upper-middle class individual who decided to set out on the road to see the Empire, and is having to come to terms with the suspicion and distrust of the law that is seen across the Empire. Currently he's shocked and amazed that town guards in backwater Stromdorf won't instantly rush to his aid just because he has a writ of duty.

I usually GM. If I don't GM, then like there is no WFRP! :-( I once got to play as a Sigmar Initiate and thought it was grand fun. Lately though, I have been enamored with the Amber Wizard.

The whole beast form thing intrigues me. I like how you can have a somewhat snively Wizard-ling, with very Wizard like skills and powers, but can transform into a pretty tough beast. The R1 Beast Form is a Wolf. In conservative stance, it has stealth and other agility skills trained. You can spy and scout and all that, but in Reckless stance you have a combat focused wolf, with Weapon skill and what not. This gives you a pretty situational wizard that can really adapt to the needs of the adventure. Then the spells themselves are at odds. You have some spells that support your beastform melee attacks, spells that sort of harass enemies with stress, and some spells that you can't cast in Beast form and use your natural strength vice intelligence. You are a Wizard, so you need education and intelligence for some spells, but you are a Feral nature freak and so want to lean towards hunting and prowling like skills. The essence of the class is about transforming in a beast with varying useful skills and adaptations, yet, with enough conflicting mechanics that you can't cover them all, so you are really forced to role play. I so wish I could play this class for some amount of time. ugh!

I play a Gold Wizard (R3) and a Myrmidian Priest (R1) and I must say I really like the priest alot.

the mix of warrior, spells and support is awesome.

What I dont like about the wizard are the limited spell actions. There are like 20 cards to make a melee attack,

but only ~10 cards when it comes to spells :(

Hi,

I gm, but given a chance to play; a thief. A High Elf gentleman art thief. Well educated, impeccable manners. A complete scoundrel and cad but with great taste and dashing style. Smoking jacket and slippers in the evening. Possibly incompetent due to prioritising style over substance. happy.gif

Have fun

I found this to be the case at first, but consider that most Wizards in Warhammer aren't like the stereotypical Fantasy Wizard that casts spell after spell. Often times they're using melee weapons, so benefit from melee action cards as well.

There are some action cards like "***** in the armor" that use intelligence vice agility for example when testing the action. You can find various actions that are skill or stat specific that may be useful that you otherwise might not consider.

I haven't had a chance to play, but I usually take either a dwarf mercenary, or a Priestess of Shallya. She wields a mean ruler ... er I mean cudgel.

You know, im a big fan of the good old fashioned City or Town Guard.

He is part fighter, but also a problem solver and investigator. He can be a very versitile character, has a clearly defined job in the Empire, and a home city. It allows for a lot of creative roleplaying because your career reports to the town authority, despite what your personal motivations are, which can create a lot of conflict if a GM wants to utilize it.

Good times,

Just wish he had a small but vicous dog.
