Heroes XP

By Gigel2, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi everyone I have a couple of questions regarding the XP that heroes are gaining by killing Leaders or Finishing Quests or Dungeons

Q1: How that the XP actually working... is it gathered like money in a pool and the heroes decide who spend on upgrade and what kind of upgrade? or when a leader is killed the hero that did the killing blow get the XP?

Q2: What happens with the XP gather from finishing a Dungeon or a Quest every hero get 2, 3 or 4 XP or all of them as a group get 2, 3 or 4 XP and then it gets split as they see fit?

Thank you

There are two separate things to track: XP and Conquest. When the party opens an empty chest, explores a new area, or otherwise gains conquest each hero gains an equal amount of XP. So if the heroes leave Tamalir and explore a new area the conquest total goes up by one (putting the campaign closer to the next tier) and each hero gets 1 XP (which they can spend for upgrades later).

so what you tell me is that every time the players get Conquest Token every player get the same amount in XP ?

Yes. You get conquest as a party and XP to spend as an individual.

Then how does the OL get XP ?? he gets Conquest Tokens too how does he transform it in XP ?

RtL pg5
Conquest tokens earned by the heroes and overlord are converted into experience points (XP) that they can use to purchase training and other upgrades. For each conquest token the overlord earns, he gains 1 XP . For each conquest token any hero earns, every hero gains 1 XP. The players keep running totals of XP earned and spent by both the heroes and the overlord on the campaign sheet.

It is all very simple.
Each 'side' earns CT, so you have two CT totals, one for heroes, and one for OL. These totals are combined to check the game's state (campaign level etc) at the start of each week.
Each individual player (4x hero, 1 x OL) gets 1 XP per CT their 'side' has earned. They spend those XP individually (note that Tamalir upgrades require each hero to pay the cost) and so will all have different running totals of XP.

The easiest thing to do is simply track CT accumulated (each side) and XP spent (each player). As long as XP spent by any individual never goes higher than his side's CT score everything is ok.

Example:
Campaign score is OL 176: Heroes 158 (total 334, so silver campaign level currently).
OL can spend up to a total of 176XP (not counting his 'free' starting upgrades).
Each hero can have spent up to 158XP (including on Tamalir upgrades.
OL: Seige Engines (free), Primary Monster type to Gold (50), Merric (5), Eliza (5), Primary Treachery 3x10 (30), secondary Treachery 2x15 (30), tertiary treachery 1x20 (20), secondary monster type to silver (30). Total = 170 XP spent, 6 unused.
Hero 1: Skill (20), Skill (30), Copper SM upgrade (20), 1x black dice added (15), 2x silver dice upgrades (40), Tamalir upgrades (Bazaar, Great Bazaar, Temple) (20). Total = 145 XP spent, 13 unused
Hero 2: Skill (20), Copper SM (20), 1x black dice added (15), 3x Silver dice upgrade (60), Tamalir upgrades (Bazaar, Great Bazaar, Temple) (20). Total = 135 XP spent, 23 XP unused.
Hero 3: Skill (20), Skill (30), Skill (40), SM copper (20), 1 silver dice upgraded (20), Tamalir upgrades (Bazaar, Great Bazaar, Temple) (20). Total = 158 XP spent, 8 XP unspent.
Hero 4: Skill (20), Skill (30), Copper SM upgrade (20), 1x black dice added (15), 1x silver dice upgrades (20), 1x gold dice upgraded (30), Tamalir upgrades (Bazaar, Great Bazaar, Temple) (20). Total = 155 XP spent, 3 unused

PS Tamalir upgrade costs are a guess here (6+6+8???) and probably not correct. The point is that every hero must have paid the same base costs for these.

Ok... thank you very much this clarifies a lot of stuff for me :)
