Starting items for Wizards

By Bugmaster, in WFRP Rules Questions

Ok, I have another newbie question.

The flavor text in the books mentions that apprentice Wizards are often given a focus item, typically a staff -- as both a magical implement and a mark of office. In the Winds of Magic book, we are also told that magical implements can be attuned to a specific Wind of Magic, granting a +1 Fortune die on rolls to Channel Magic with this implement.

So, what do newly-made Apprentice Wizard characters get ? Do they get a staff ? If so, is it attuned ? If not, how would they get one, and how much would it cost ?

I seem to remember that you can start with an Attuned 1 (your Wind) item of your choice (or GM's choice, like a Bright Wizard could have a Sword, where it would be unlikely for an Amber one) with the Apprentice Career. It's like the steping stone in your Apprenticeship, your Master crafted it with your / for you.

PG p115, Attuned item sidebar. There is something too in the ToM of the Core Set, could be about the same

Nah I would not give them one, I would send him on a quest to complete to earn it. Perfect adventure starting point.

That's exactly what I did. The Apprendice Wizard must success a trial to earn his title, and, doing so, earning his attuned wizard stick.
