Elementalist

By Mr. Brogger, in Talisman Home Brews

I just played with some ideas for a character and come up with this one.

Very nice Brogger aplauso.gif, but couldn“t the element of fire be combat related, like you may add +1 or +2 to your strength in your next battle or something. Just a thought.

Hmm... interesting, but I was wondering about tying each power to a particular roll result. Of course then some power would be activating too often. Overall, all of these put together as choices, even for a 16.7% chance of activation, just seem like too much as well as with too little control.

And, if you look to TalismanIsland.com, you will find you are using an illustration from a paid professional artist (who works for FFG, and Talisman)... and that illustration has already been used with direct permission from the artist.

The illustration is only temporary until I have made my own illustration (I was thinking of a Gnome) and the abilities of the Elementalist has reach the final. I know this illustration belong to the Spirit Dancer wich is very cool by the way. The Elementalists abilities is far from set so fell free to come with suggestions :-)

JC: I like your suggestion with the die roll and will try to figure out something.

Wizard: I would like to do something more offensive with the fire element ;-)

Best regards

Lasse

Elementalist - Reloaded cool.gif

I do not know what race the Elementalist should be. Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome or something else - any good ideas ?

I really like this onehappy.gif Very nice. I think the elementalist would be either human or elf.

we must hope that there will be more elementals in the future expansionshappy.gif

Thank you Wizard happy.gif I should probably only allow the Elementalist to use one element ability each turn so that he can't stack the fire ability.

I am not quite sure how the water element should work yet. I am not sure if gaining 1 spell gives any sense for a water abilityserio.gif I was thinking about a water walk like ability, but it gives a long description and I would like to hold it simple in text.

The shift to Fate for powering abilities is interesting, though it is also very potent considering that Fate can be used on any roll of a die that a character makes (by the standard rules). I'm no so sure about a character's "fate/destiny" being affected by a movement roll result, then again, Fate really isn't fate in Talisman. Missing a turn to gain that Fate does work as a balancer.

Hmm... I guess in short I'm on the fence on this one. It think you've got it well balanced thereby. But I would cut that gain a spell part and do something else with Water. Your notion of waterwalking is much better. That's a potent but neutral option for when it's needed. And it fits the character and the element better than a spell.

Water: you may cross the River instead of rolling for movement.

Fire still seems ... um... I don't know... but I can't think of anything better within Talisman's simple mechanics. A bit of change wording might be better on one word. It's unclear if the Fate must be spent before or after the roll. It should be one or the other to avoid confusion and conflicts among players. There's also the issue of compounding Fate use. Does she get to use a Fate for +2 AND then also use a Fate to re-roll if she wants to?

Fire: add 2 to your roll result in Battle. (Hence after the roll)

OR

Fire: add 2 to your Strength for one Battle (Hence before the roll)

And yes, kill any stacking option!

You may use one of your elemental powers per turn by discarding 1 Fate.

ADDENDUM: I have a potential image you could use. It's not professional (and therefor free) but it might do. Go to the follow gallery and have a peek.

I took an advertising render for a poser model and then worked it over with lighting, layer, and brush effects. The original image was a bit small, so I had to fractal enlarge it for eventual print need. Some crystallization of image details occurred, but these will not be noticeable when a character card is printed at 300ppi.

If you like it, you can have it. If not, say so and don't sweat it. I've got the PSD original stored away in my big graphics drive and maybe someday another use for it may pop up.

Update.

Thank you JC, this illustration fits for the Elementalist and looks good :-)

Looks nicehappy.gif I would like to play that character. Good work again Brogger.

Yup, looking good. You might shift the image a little more the left, even letting some of the "fire" ball slip out under the frame's edge.
