Idiot's Guide to Psyker Powers

By Fortinbras, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

I've read and reread the "Using a Psychic Power" rules and am still at a loss, the examples are broken up so much that it's hard to read a coherent vision of what a full psychic roll from initial skill roll to damage tally to warp-phenomenon test to target-resist to end would look like.

Would someone post a brief example with all the related rolls so I can figure out what the book is trying to tell me?

Choose Strength (Fettered, Unfettered, Push)

Roll Focus power test, with psyker getting +5 per effective psy rating

Look at Table 6-1: Psychic Strength to see if there is a psychic phenomena

Assess effects of power.

So, If you wanted to force bolt a pirate:

My psy 3 astropath is a bit desperate and so she will maximum push.

Roll her vs. Will needing 52+6x5=82 and I roll a 04: bad guy is hit (using the errata. dont need to roll BS)

Since I pushed Table 6-1 says I roll Psychic Phenomena (table 6-2) with a +15 on the roll

I roll a seventy.......TWO and dont have something really bad happen (namely rolling on 6-3)

I use my Rite of Sanctioning to make the Warp Madness into Hoarfrost.

Finally rolling damage I roll a 9+12=21, and the 12 pt pirate scum gets his head blown clean off. Or at least close to it.
