Cards, tokens, and organization

By Kosem, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

So after getting a core set over the holidays and going through everything I realized that I really need to organize all of these cards, standups, tokens, and so on. I was wondering how everyone handles all the bits that come in the different sets. For now all I've got is rubber bands to separate the cards into different decks, a bag for the dice, stands, and punchboard bits. The punchboard bag is especially difficult to find stuff in.

The first thing that came to mind was a tackle box to sort all the stuff out. What do you guys use to keep stuff in a semblence of order?

A tackle box is exactly what I use. I bought a 6$ plano tackle kit and it holds all of my cards ( I have all the expansions). For the bits, I have a mini three drawer organizer I bought for 3$ at wal-mart. It holds my stance meters, trackers, and stress & fatigue tokens. Finally, I have a 2$ clear bin that holds all of the careers cards and stands up. It also holds the player boxes. So I spent a little over 10 bucks to get it all together.

The table kit is what really makes the difference. I was using one of those cardboard baseball card holders and it didn't work for actually accessing my cards.

Don't use rubber bands! The rubber will degrade and mar the cards. I bind my card decks with Hugo's Amazing Tape, and I store my tokens in Altoids tins.

Woah, thanks for the warning. Those are coming off when I get home and they'll get put in something else

If you can't find hugo tape then another cheap and effective substitute are material coated hair elastics. You can usually pick them up at the dollar store for cheap. Where I live cheap means 100 for $1.

Similar to a tackle box, I use a tool box from the hardware store that has a removable tray. The lid has an area for washers/nuts/screws that works great for the tokens. The removable tray holds all the smaller cards and the main part of the box carries the stand-ups and die ... works great.

  • Decks of cards that are chosen randomly (wounds, insanity, mutation, disease, careers, etc.) get bound as decks of cards (rubber bands noooo! preocupado.gif) and stored in a vault box
  • Counters, stance pieces, tokens, etc. get stored in a divided plastic box (for sewing or scarpbooking or something) that fits in the Core box
  • Action, career ability, and talent cards get stored in the Player's 3 ring binder with 3x3 CCG card insets
  • Location, gear, condition, creature, and creature action cards get stored in the GM's 3 ring binder
  • (Note half-size cards like conditions and and talents get stored horizontally with two cards per pocket)
  • Soft cover books are in a cardboard comic book case (not a longbox, more vertical) or the Core box
  • Hardback guides are carried around loosely
  • Dice in a Crown Royal bag ('natch)
  • Player and creature standups are categorized by group into sammich baggies and stored in a box
  • Miscellaneous handouts and other cards are kept in the GM's vault box
  • Character sheet pads are kept in the Player's vault box
  • Some extra pencils are kept in the Core box

It's a lot of stuff to keep track of but I love organizing the cards and reviewing them.

i actually found a really cool screw/nail box at Wal-Mart for 11 bucks. It holds all the cards and tokens for me.........

Or zip-lock plastic baggies, which are usually pretty cheap as well.

I have all the cards in a Z-Binder, organized into playing card and photo sleeves. The components like tracking tokens, fatigue/stress, turn hourglasses and trackers are in a small Plano container, player and NPC standups in a medium Plano, along with leftover Wound cards. The main Wound deck, monster standups, Mutations, Diseases, Conditions, Miscasts are in a third Plano.

The reason I keep it all seperate is that I can put the different Plano containers around the table to give people access to what they need during the game, and it seems to work pretty well. The only thing that I have to do is get the main Wound deck out along with all the other decks, leaving only the second wound deck in the container since I never use it.

I use a couple of those. Since you can swich out the compartments in it I've got different sizes for cards, bits, standups (sorted into different categories) and so on. Works really well and it makes it easy to pick up the individual compartment for fatuigue/stress and other stuff and just put it in reach of all the players.

I have collection of boxes I got from a craft store that I use for the cards and bits, although I'm still not thrilled with my organization.

For the characters stands, I got some old 35mm slide sleeves. They're a great size for the stands, even fitting the large size, and let me flip through them quickly to spot the right one. It's great when needing a character, especially a human NPC on the fly. I keep it in a three ring binder. I have them organized by creature type right now and can't wait to get the vault to expand it. I might get some other sleeves so that other cards, like NPC action cards and the like, are equally easy to find.
