Game Masters Vault Contents

By Gitzman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hey dudes,

I've been debating what 'new' content i am going to pick up. I am a little unclear as to the actual contents of the Game Masters Vault. If i already own the Core Set and all the expansions, is there any need to purchase the new Vault? Is there anything 'new' in it that i cannot get otherwise?

As an example, the Creature Vault comes with LOADS of new stuff that has not been released in any other set to date, so that seems like a valid purchase.

I suppose i have the same question regarding the Players Vault. Best i can tell the contents of the Players Vault and the Game Masters Vault comprise the token and card content of the Core Set. Is that about right? Is there anything extra or new?

Pretty much.

The GM Vault does have useful stuff, though. It has more dice (always a good thing), more tracking tokens and fatigue/stress tokens, more track/stance pieces, another set of Basic Action cards, some standups, etc.

all of which is handy additional supplemental pieces (especially the dice and basic action cards). Oh, I should mention it also has 2x copies of a lot of location cards, which is nice for laying out your table for combats a little more literally using location cards.

So, while you could skip the GM Vault if you have the Core Set, I think it's a handy addition and I've picked a copy up myself.

Certainly, I would prioritize the Creature Guide+Vault over the GM Vault if a choice must be made.

The GM Guide is really less useful, unless you want charts, or need additional GM examples/suggestions to assist (good for new GMs). If you don't have the rules for Corruption or Disease, you are better off getting WoM and SoF for all the extra goody-ness those supplements have, than picking up the GMG just for those rules.

The Player's Guide is somewhat handy for a GM, mainly b/c it has the careers and action cards listed so if you lose a card you've got the information (and can make a new one, or what have you), and can be easily loaned to a player if they have need to look something up.

The Player's Vault is probably least useful for a GM, although I suppose a second set of all the action cards wouldn't be a bad thing. And additional PC standups can be used as NPCs.

This has been my concern too. I've been debating whether I wanted to pick up the Players/GM's Vault/Guide and I think I'll hold out until my group really gets playing, in which case an extra book, or set of whatever might come in handy.

You know, a true collector and fan would get them..FOR THE EMPIRE!!!!

I get a little teary-eyed every time I watch that...

Hehe yeah that intro is brilliant. There is a full lenght 40k movie and I wish they would make a warhammer fantasy one as well. Would be awesome.

Love that Mark of Chaos intro, been one of my favs since it came out.

I just got the 40k movie over Christmas, its quite good actually, so-so animation quality, but story and lore were top notch. Called 'Ultramarines' and runs $40 (collectors edition(only edition)).

Love that video Em. The Warhammer Age of Reckoning one is nearly as good, though the Warrior Priest at the end of that one should have won the battle.

As for your question on the YT page; I've always assumed it was a Shadow Warrior, the styling, clothes and weaponry just indicate that to me.

I looked at the 40k movie, but I can't justify spending $40 when the trailers were extremely underwhelming to me. I'd hoped for something at least comparable to the CGI like what was linked above.

I can vote yes for the Ultramarines movie as well. I'm not normally keen on 40k and have never played any of it. The movie is quite good however in terms of story.

The trailers do not do the Ultramarines movie justice. The animation quality is NOT the same as those trailers E posted which are amazing. They are however mediocre to good quality. And frankly, if you like warhammer, you will love it no matter what since it deals with a lot of lore content beyond blowing stuff up with your bolter and screaming 'for the emperor'.

Also, Mark of Chaos was a cool game, so was Dark Omen, and Shadow of the Horned Rat! Long live the Grudgebringers!

Gitz.

I hadn't tried MoC because of the generally poor reviews. I did try the first Dawn of War, which I enjoyed, but I didn't spend a lot of time on it since I picked up Thief 3 at around the same time and it got overshadowed.

It sounds like the movie might be fun, just not $40 fun. Maybe for $15 or even $20.... it's rough because I know they won't sell a quantity that would make that price point make sense.

My, well actually my groups, prefered play style is the core box set all the cards, all it's glory. To that end I don't see any value in picking up the GM Vault if you've got the core set and perhaps the GM Toolkit. The GM Vault just contains a lot of unnecessary duplication.

The Players Vault on the other hand is a big benefit if you have more then 3 or 4 players for the extra set of action cards. No more sharing etc... very handy. While we've certainly been making due thus far without it, having them just is nicer.

My debate is now about the Creature Guide or the Creature Vault. That I can't decide on yet.

Creature Vault cards are a real godsend (for me at least). The guide has some info referenced on the cards (but NOT explained in the vault) so you really need access to both, but if it had to be one, it would be the vault plus some kind soul on the boards giving me details about what some of the info (from the guide) on the cards was supposed to mean...demonio.gif

Ok thanks for that. What kind of info is missing from the vault that is explained in the guides? If it's just some flavor or 'optional' rules like boar's using fearsome charge then I'm good. I've always just kind of mixed and matched creature actions where the descriptions fit anyway. If it's that the vault doesn't explain at all how to use the creature group (whatever they call it) cards then that's something else.
