Innsmouth Investigators Seem a Bit Too Powerful

By jscott991, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Aye. I never limit myself or any other player in Investigator (or even GOOs) choice by the board(s) we play with. The only thing that limits us are Heralds, because specific ones say you cannot use them without a certain board (Dagon, Hydra, and Dunwich Horror being those Heralds). Having more AOs to choose from is neat, and having even more Investigators to choose from (or be randomly dealt, really) is the best ^_^

Very true. Not to mention that Kate being the Deputy (or having the patrol wagon) + Arcane Insight is a combo able to beat almost every game

Has anyone tried this combo with the Innsmouth board? When IH first came out, it was suggested that the DOR track might be an effective check on Kate's power. Can anyone say if it actually works out that way?

So... anyone actually tried this? Does anyone have any information on whether Kate+AI+mobility is still a game breaker when using the Innsmouth board?

I don't really get it. How is it a game breaker? You still don't know where the gate's gonna burst, so it's still guesswork - or am i missing something?

Arcane Insight when successfully cast allows you to look at the top three cards of the Mythos deck and arrange them however you like them. So you know where the next gate will open. I drew KW + AI once in the pre-IH era and it was one of easiest and one of the most boring games of AH ever. Cthulhu, even though he is an utter pansy normally, was even lamer in that game, stood no chance against the might of Kate Winthrop.

oh. I was completely thinking of a different spell. Well that explains it. :)

Were you thinking of "Revelation of Script" from the Dark Pharaoh expansion?

I'd be willing to bet anyone here a hundred bucks that I could still win 90+ % of games with this combo when using the Innsmouth board. You just have to be a little more clever about not spamming the ability (and trading in the ocassional trophies at the science building and clues to knock the DOR track off). Even if you'd only use the combo every 4 out of 6 mythos draws (instead of every turn), you'll destroy the game (barring extraordinary bad luck)..

Arcane Insight + lot of tomes + Daisy Walker = invincible. You basically control what the Mythos does by then.

Or instead of tomes, perhaps mystic gift (with press pass!). or Ancient Language..
