Flames of the Phoenix

These questions don't just apply to this card, just used it for an example. I also have searched the forums and have not found an answer for these questions, so I apologize if they have been answered before.

My question has to do with returning units to a player's hand.

Example 1: In combat, damage is assigned, and a player decides to recall a unit. So being that the damage is only assigned and not applied at this point, the damage still exists so it then would be applied to the capital correct?

Example 2: In combat, damage is now applied, a unit has enough damage assigned to be destroyed, can a player recall a unit at that point, or is it considered dead and too late to "save" and put back into your hand?

#1: Yes.

#2: The Action Window only comes after damage has been applied, so any units killed during Apply Damage Step aren't around to be called back anymore.

I think Dam misread your question, cause #1 should be No.

If you attack with a 4 damage unit, and he blocks with a 2 HP unit, you must assign 2 damage to a unit, and are allowed to assign 2 damage to the capital.

If he returns his unit before damage is *assigned*, then you get to apply it all to the capital. If he returns it after its assigned, he just saves his unit and you still only deal 2 to the capital. The assign phase is over, so you don't have an opportunity to re-assign that damage. If he waits until after the apply damage step, then the unit dies, as Dam said, cause there is no action window until its too late.

Well, kinda depends on what the OP meant. Was it 4 dmg to assign, 2 to a 2HP unit, 2 to capital, Flames, 2 gets still applied to capital? Then yes. If it was same example but after Flames 4 dmg gets applied to capital then no. Once assigned, damage is applied if possible (unit still in play), but unit leaving play doesn't alter the assigning.
