Pre-recorded Gameplay Help?

By H.P. Lovecraft2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Since the game hit the scene in '05, Mandy has been declared the best investigator of all time. Starting with 4 clues is a huge help, and something about that re-roll ability seems to be very, very helpful.

Alright, maybe Ill actually have a chance this time, I must remember her for the future.

Honestly, if I had to choose between Mandy and Wendy, I'd probably go for Wendy. As much as I love her ability, Wendy's 8 clues are superior. And... Well... I'm not quite sure if either is better than Patrice. The monster might be the best investigator now... It's hard to compete with the abominable clue generator...

One gate open, mythos phase, 3 players on board, mythos card says gate appears where there is already a gate, so monster surge, now it says monsters equal to gates or players, 3 players and one gate, so 3 monsters appear, but rules say the number of monsters that appear cannot be more then the number of monsters on the gate where this first came into effect.....one monster already there........so ONLY ONE monster appears?

No, this means that if you're distributing monsters on two or more gates you always have to past the most on the surging gate. E.g. two gates and three monsters have to result in placing two monsters on the surging gate, otherwise the surging gate wont have most monsters distributed to it.

The amount of monsters before the monster surge is irrelevant.

TL;DR
Monster surge with only one gate? Place all monsters on the gate (or in outskirts if appropriate).

I just got a mythos card that said all monsters in locations are returned to the cup, does this include monsters on gates in location?

Never thought of that before, actually, since technically gates replace locations. I've played it as they do, though, get returned. Otherwise you'd only get to take a hound of Tindalos or monsters at places where gates were and then the Investigators left the space somehow...

Yes. Locations with gates are still locations . Just maybe not the locations that they're named, but they're still locations.

Cool thanks, Ive been up all night playing, now I taking a break from the game

The card is Manhunt in Arkham, isn't it? I'd say that yes, monsters on gates are included in the number of those to be returned to the monsters cup.

Here is kind of an odd question, when playing with others how strictly are procedures adhered to, I mean if someone was going to choose, for instance to follow the encounter outlined on the board location, but then changes their mind, I don't like that I think Ill choose to pick an encounter card instead. Do you let them do so, or do you expect them to follow their original movement. [v9]

OW encounter card says monster appears, appears on the gate of OW investigator is currently in?

"Monsters in Encounters from phases 3 and 4 (Arkham and OW encounters) appear and do not count against the monster limit. You must face it as if you just ran into it on the streets. " [/qoute]

So where is it placed on the gate? So you fight it then at that very moment, beat it you keep it, not you return it to the cup, so it only appears fro a brief time.[v9/10]

Not so sure I got your question, HPL. Whenyou draw a card instructing you to face a monster appearing, you place the monster chit in the very same location where your character marker is. Thus, if you're in the 2nd area of an OW, then the monster chit should go there. Same for location. Or, at least, this is the way I've always played. Basically, I think it isn't so important, I mean, it's just a thing between you and the monster, as soon as the combat ends (because you evade, win or lose the combat) the monster chit leaves play, being taken as a trophy or put again in the monsters cup (or returned to the box, in some special cases)

I put the chit in front of whomever is fighting it (the player, not the investigator). Keeps it easy so they can look it over, and if they kill it they can just slide it into their pile instead of reaching ^_^

As for your "stinginess" question: Depends on the context (and, frankly, who is doing it). If someone already put the monsters back in the cup to get the clues in the science building, I'd say they're stuck (mostly because I don't wanna fish out the monsters again, especially if we don't remember what they are...). If their turn in the phase is up (so if someone else finishes their turn in the encounter phase), then I'd say it's too late. But really it depends on what's going on and their reason for doing so. Not sure WHY someone would suddenly change their mind, but if they realize it and want to change it in a timely manner, I'm game. Plus, it's a game, so we should have fun! Right?

Porky's

Man, this is great ;-) I'm definitly not into "teen comedies" or whatelse, but "Porky's" is one of the funniest thing I've ever seen. It's light years above American pie (which is by far better than most of the similar comedies we were snowed under in the last years) - at least, in my opinion, of course, I don't want to lack of respect for anyone's likenings. It's brilliant, having tons of ideas behind the mere jokes. The first Porky's and the second one (the third one is simply awful and useless) are something worth of seeing. And seeing. Ok, back to Bergman now (uhm.. I know Avi, it's similar to your Buffy & Gran Torino thing)

I wouldnt call it a teen comedy, its more in the vein of Animal House, but yeah funny as hell. Funny enough it was filmed right here in Ft Lauderdale, in fact most of the stories in the film are based on the directors memory of going to school at Ft Lauderdaal high in the late 40s, early 50s, everything in that film actually happened. And of course it was directed by Bob Clark who did A Christmas Story, which was sort of penance for making Porky's :)

Really? That's interesting to know, thank you ;-)
