Pre-recorded Gameplay Help?

By H.P. Lovecraft2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I've been filming myself playing (at least trying to play) Arkham horror, I'v posted a few rounds on my youtube channel, I'm looking for some help with the game, I'd really appreciate it if some of you guys could watch these and let me know what I'm doing wrong, which I'm sure is.....a bit. I have a few more videos to post and then Ill be skipping ahead to fighting the AO.

My first suggestion? Get a bigger table lengua.gif It looks mighty tiny for your needs with the game! I play on the floor of my guest room, myself...but that's just me...At least it allows me to keep it out, though!

Oh! Also, instead of adding/taking away dollars on the board when monsters appear/go away I had this idea for you: Since you use the stands for the monsters, why not lay out 7 plastic stands, and when you run out, that reminds you to add to the Outskirts, instead!

Unfortunately that's all the room I have to spare, especially if I want to leave it all out so that I can play when I get a chance. I could put it on my bed but Id have no place to sleep :)

Actually its not even a table its the board proped up on the side of the couch with some boxes with old VHS tapes holding up the opposite side. gran_risa.gif

Thanx for the monster suggestion though

Ha! Awesome. Jerry-rig what you can for the sake of the game! Sounds good to me

Watching your 2nd video while eating some ramen gran_risa.gif Anyway, first you face a monster in the movement phase! So Bob would face her then. And a "-" means no check or damage, so in the Horror spot, you make no horror check (she's only human!), and you essentially skip that part, going right to combat. Some monsters have that as combat damage, too, so look at their chits for an explanation (like a Dimensional Shambler or The Black Man). So you played it right, except you can just skip the horror phase, instead of rolling at +0 and taking no horror damage. More to come as I enjoy my soup!

Don't forget you can use weapons against monsters. Not sure if Bob had any but he could've used them against the witch. But! All's well that ends well, and he won "by the seat of his pants" happy.gif

Did you make a check for Michael McGlenn in the woods? I think the camera cut but I didn't see any movement of the dice. You had to pass the speed check to get Duke, first. If Duke isn't in the ally pile, THEN you gain $3 (only after passing the check, however!)

You don't auto-start with 1 doom token, either. You kinda do, because a gate opens, but you opened 2 gates and had 3 doom tokens on. There should be 2 when the second one was opened.

Did you increase the terror level? Not sure why you did. There are some cards that tell you to, and the only way to do it automatically is "too many monsters." Which you had under control in turn 2, so not sure if you actually did!

Everything else was just fine, though! You remembered the environment that lowers your movement and everything (I hate that one...), and you remembered that you go through gates in the encounter phase (a LOT of people mess that up). Looking good so far! As always, if you have any specific questions (related to anything I said here or not) feel free to ask us!

Very cool, you are truly Neato :) Thanks a lot, Im going to go over those first few videos in connection with your input, Ive posted more and soon Ill be posting the final battle. Really appreciate your insights so far..........

Would you mind if I use your comments as Annotations for the video's?

Glad to help! And sure, do as you wish ^_^ As long as I get my cut if you get paid for it all, of course gran_risa.gif

So far Ive added your comments to the first two videos, check them out if you like, youve been a great help, of course I could use some more gui%C3%B1o.gif gran_risa.gif

Here are even more, if anyone would be so kind.

Haven't even gotten to the final battle yet happy.gif

Don't you add a doom token everytime a gate opens, and move the terror track up?

Every time a gate opens, a doom token is added. But the terror level is only increased if the Outskirts overflows.

If a gate opens on a gate, a monster surge occurs, but since no new gate has opened, no doom token is added. However, the influx of monsters from the surge may very well lead to an Outskirts overflow, and therefore a terror-up.

Thanks thats very helpful

Or because you're instructed to do so by some Mythos cards

Thank you too happy.gif

Some more questions I came across in my video tapped game session

This may be a stupid one:

1. When you are in "other world" you pick a card which says that a monster appears! Where does it appear?

Just to make sure:

2. In the movement phase you move onto a loaction with a monster, you fight it then?

3. In what scenarios can you choose not to move your investigator?

4. You are in a street location and a monster appears there also, when the next movement phase comes around you fight it then?

5. Can't be more then one rumor, headline etc card on baord at same time?

5. Can't be more then one rumor, headline etc card on baord at same time?

1.) Monsters in Encounters from phases 3 and 4 (Arkham and OW encounters) appear and do not count against the monster limit. You must face it as if you just ran into it on the streets. So you must either evade it, or voluntarily enter combat. If you successfully defeat it, you keep keep the trophy (or get the "prize" for things like Mi-Go or Warlocks) but if you evade it or it defeats you, it disappears back into the Monster Cup.

2.) Yes. Whenever you enter a space with a monster in phase 2 (movement), you must either evade it or voluntarily enter combat with it.

3.) During movement phase, you can always choose to not use your movement points. If an encounter forces you to move, you must move. If an encounter says you MAY move (say, to the Woods or something), you can choose to move there.

4.) Yes. Monsters only appear in the streets during the Mythos phase (that I know of), and is not the same as when an encounter card says "A Monster Appears!" So yes, you face it on your next movement phase.

5.) No Headlines are on the board, but often their effects are still felt (say a monster still on the board, or something that lasts until the end of the next turn). Environments replace one-another, regardless of their type (an urban is drawn, which replaces the mystic already in pay). When you draw a rumor and there's another one in play already, you still follow the gate opening and the monster movement, but then ignore the rumor and discard it.

5. An environment doesn't replace an already-in-play environment until you get to the "text" portion of the mythos card. Do gate, clue, monster movement first. Monster movement may very well be affected by the already-in-play environment.

"not the same as when an encounter card says "A Monster Appears!"

How so?

So headlines stay untill the next person moves!

"When you draw a rumor and there's another one in play already, you still follow the gate opening and the monster movement, but then ignore the rumor and discard it."

The one just selected from pile or original card?

He's saying that when you get "a monster appears!" encounters, you deal with that monster and either claim it as a trophy or return it to the cup.

A "place two monsters on the board" headline puts two monsters on the board. There's nothing to make those monsters go away again, unless they overflow the outskirts or you beat them or something. But the headline hasn't hung around—it just placed two monsters and was done.

If you draw a rumor for your Mythos card, and there's already a rumor in play, you do everything on the drawn card as normal (gate, clue, monster movement), but instead of applying the mythos text (a new rumor), you discard it without further effect.

Got it, thanx aplauso.gif

I am starting my 5th game (4th by myself), this time I thought Id make it "the day of the woman" Im using 3 of the female investigators, Gloria, Amanda. Mandy, they are fighting Ithaqua. Any predictions on how it will play out?

Since Mandy is involved, my prediction is "excellently."

Oh is she good, or is that a bit of sarcasm gui%C3%B1o.gif
