Forced movement from cards

By diablo666, in Android

Hello,everyone.

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question.

Do you still draw a card for moving to a ritzy or seedy location if someone forces you to move to that location from a card???

Our group ruled that you still get the free card but could not find an official answer.

I would also rule it that way that you get the card for entering the location. The rule book says that you draw the cards because the atmosphere of the location influences the mood of the detective, so it seems logical to me.

There is no official answer on this yet, and you are not the first person to ask. It needs to be in the FAQ, which I guess they are working on - but who knows.

I've actually mailed through with a number of rules queries, including this one. Not that I am condoning flooding them with questions, but since there is little input on these forums from official words, I would drop a line to the rules questions link. Otherwise, it might not appear on the FAQ since I might the only person who has actually asked it happy.gif

You enter the location, so you draw a card.

I would say yes, you draw the card. Note, that if the player moves to a location and a card is played forcing them to cancel that move, they don't get the card.

Is this the Mike that we know as Mike Z, who helps out with lots of official answers to lots of rules questions?

If so - thanks for popping by. Your answers are the closest we have at the moment to anything official. There are lots of other questions outstanding too. I'm now 4 games in, and we now have a lot of questions that need answering.

But I thought the twilight card is drawn before any player gets a chance at any "play when Floyd enters a seedy location" cards?

Here is how I have been ruling on various "enter a location" effects:

-Twilight cards are drawn for entering ritzy/seedy locations before any cards are played in response (per page 29 of the rules).

-Moving a player to a new location does not cause them to "enter" it, so new cards aren't drawn and twilight cards can't be played in response. If a player is moved when it's not their turn (if the Director Haas "let's go for a ride" event moves them, for example) then they don't get to draw new cards and cards can't be played on them.

-Using a dropship pass to enter a restricted location costs 3 Time (without a warrant).

-Using Raymond's "move anywhere on the board" light card does not cost extra time to enter a restricted location, nor does he get to draw a free card.

According to Mike (above), you do draw a card because you are entering the location. Kevin has said that you cannot just move to a location without entering it. However, it does seem a bit odd that all of this is possible.

1) Player moves to a seedy location and draws a dark card.
2) Another player plays a card on them which says "Play when they enter a seedy location - move them to anywhere on the board".
3) They are moved to a ritzy location
4) They draw a light card
5) Another player plays a card on them which says "Play when they enter a ritzy location - move them to anywhere on the board".
6) They are moved to a major location
7) Another player plays a card on them which says "Play when they enter a major location".

All of this is possible. Never had one of those days where the planets seemed to be aligned just to cause you grief and everything goes wrong? Your character does have these days, too.

I'm afraid I'm not that Mike. But I do have a firm grasp on the rules and deductable logic. So give your questions, and I will answer them as best as I can.

Hi, we use the rule one dark card + one light card for one action, assuming that is a voluntary action.

Otherwise the Time spent by the detective doesn't match with its availability.

If a dark card forces a detective to move back, we assume that she/he arrived and soon after starting inquiring around she/he's been forced back to where he came from. And then no other cards can be played.

In this way drawing twilight cards in Ritzy/Seedy Locations keeps on working.
