Cylon Fleet with Cylon Fleet?

By Psilon, in Battlestar Galactica

The "Cylon Fleet" location says "Activate all Cylon ships of one type, or launch 2 raiders and 1 heavy raider from each basestar." What happens if a player chooses the latter option (launch) when all the basestars are on the pursuit board?

I would say that nothing happens, or it is an invalid play akin to "pass".

You can only activate the ships on the main game board.

The effects of the Icons, that fail to resolve on the main game board ("Nothing happens" in core rules), would not apply to the option to launch, etc.

That seems to make sense under the new rules... um... right?

What prevents the raiders and heavy raider from being launched from the pursuit board's basestars onto the pursuit board itself?

I am not 100% on this, don't get me wrong.

Mine somewhat lame response would be "there is no game mechanic for that".

The Cylon Fleet Board usage is spelled out, and the start of that section is something to the effect that when you are resolving the icons, and the core rules result in a "nothing happens", then you follow the steps.

I don't think that the space activation would qualify to follow the Cylon Fleet sequence (but that is a bit of a wild guess!)

and that if it DID, you still would not launch raiders or heavys, but rather a placement of a basestar on the Cylon Fleet board per rules.

AND, since you can already do that with the basestar (right?) - picking the spot - and get a second basestar action - it would make no sense to do so.

Thoughts?

According to tim, activating all cylon ships of one type counts as an activation symbol of its type and thus can end up placing ships on the cylon fleet board and advancing the pursuit track

Im assuming with this knowledge, a basestar needs to be on the gameboard to launch 2 raiders and 1 heavy raider since there is no specific activation symbol for this, thus not allowing you to use that part of the cylon fleet action with the cylon fleet board
