Just FYI for you folks ![]()
I'm kind of torn equally between 1st edition and 3rd edition
First because of it's newness and break from the unicorns and fairies, and third because it's just so damned pretty and concise.

Haven't most 3rd edition fans deserted RPG.net at this point? It's a pretty hostile environment for discussion.
I had to vote for 3rd; I can't remember when I've enjoyed running any RPG as much, though I skew toward 1st as far as the setting goes.
Even with every single rpg in the world listed there, including the fantastic storry teller system, ars magic etc. - I'd still pick warhammer 3rd edition. After 5+ years of absolutely no RPGing it made me come back to the hobby and I am quite sure that if I had not stumbled across a description of WFRP 3rd ed. then I wouldn't have spent any thoughts on RP games and I sure as hell wouldn't have been able to get my old group together. But somehow 3rd. editions just turned us on and now that we have played 25+ sessions I think we agree that for us roleplaying would not be the same without this new edition.
3rd. edition is our personal RP Messiah to be honest ![]()
I must say that, before we started with the 3rd edition, the last time I had time managing problems due to GMing was about 15 years ago...
As soon as we get through a session, the players start pestering me "when's the next one going to be"? It's quite telling when the players work full week, have families with children and some need to travel quite a bit to get to a session and nevertheless get enthusiastic like they were back in high school...
So, I guess my group will vote for v3.

I've not had any hassle there or at StS now that the bitterness of 2e has died out. The biggest problem there is that many really good posts get buried.

Yeah when I wrote 5 years it was a few vampire sessions (3-4 I think) and that's all. We haven't gamed like this in about 15 years as well. Not only are my players into it like it sounds yours are - I am really hooked on GMing after we started on 3rd ed.
We get together once a month and take turns hosting (I always GM though). It's about an hour drive for all of us, but we haven't felt this enthusiastic about a game in many years. For older gamers like us, something about 3rd. ed. just make us want more and financially we're much better off than when we were studying, so buying all the new stuff isn't an issue.
The group I've joined is noted for having a very short attention span. They tell me that before I started playing with them, they would rarely run the same system for more than 3 or 4 sessions at a time. We started with 3rd last March and we've been playing almost every week since (with a few breaks here and there due to holidays and scheduling).
It's also interesting to note that these guys, who've played a lot of different systems, were unanimous is saying Winds of Change (from WoM) was their favorite pre-written adventure they've ever played.
Perhaps I'm just an amazing GM (I strongly doubt that, though), but I think this shows FFG is doing something right with this edition.
(And still I want to know who wrote Winds of Change. Whoever it was deserves a good bit of praise in my opinion.)
I have to echo what many others have said. 3e brought me back to roleplaying after a hiatus that seemed like it might last forever, and my players are always enthusiastic and excited about the next game. It's got some gimmick factor to it, that's for sure, but it seems to work, and I find that it enhances the roleplaying rather than stifles it. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun sitting around a tabletop game.
Reading through the comments, it seems like most of the pro-v2 people merely said that because they already have a lot of the books for it. A lot of people that posted, that seemed to me to have voted for v1, voted that way because they hadn't played v3 yet. I was both encouraged and discouraged by the posts. Discouraged because there were a lot of people (v1 and v2 likers both) that hadn't tried v3 yet, but encouraged because there were a lot of those same people posting that they *wanted* to try v3. Only a couple people posted that they had tried v3 and liked v1 or v2 better.
I have to admit, that I am very surprised, that 2nd Edition is leading the vote by so much. 2nd Edition was kind of a letdown for me - it didn't change enough to be a real new start and it changed too much to make me feel "at home" in the game.
For me this is a choice between 1st Edition (simple rules, best background, all rules in one volume) and 3rd Edition (novelty, lots of bits, clean new start with innovative ideas). As I haven't actually played 3rd yet, I can not really make up my mind yet - but I know for sure, that I wouldn't vote for 2nd Edition.

It's often a natural thing for old editions to "seem" more popular on such board, when the new edition has it's own board.
The people who play 3rd edition will use the new board, new players will do a "google" and find this board. So the people who don't want to play 3rd, will use boards like Strike/Stun and rpg.net.
Combine this with many people being angry that FFG made the grave insult as to make a new edition an actual "new" edition, and not just update of the old rules, means many will work their hardest to trash the new edition, because we all know that if this game fails somehow, GW or BI will begin to produce 2nd edition once again...
Finally, many people still play 2nd edition, because it was a excellent game in itself, and there's no real reason to change game, if you enjoy what you're playing, especially with a hefty price tag as 3rd edition has.
My group really enjoys 3rd edition too. Ever since I bought the starting set last summer we have played almost every week, adding a few expansions along the way. I have almost no prior experience of RPGs but I felt I had to try this out. Being a first-time GM when I started with this, I must say it was easy to get into the role as a GM fairly quickly.
The only problem is that I would like to try other RPGs, but I'm afraid 3rd edition has spoiled me and that I would be disappointed if a tried something else.

Yeah, that would be very interesting. Although my group isn't yet that much into it after the first session of Winds of Change, I was extremely amazed when I read the scenario. I think the adventures for 3rd edition are more like 1st edition Warhammer than those of the 2nd. And that surprises me the most.
