Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard Armour question...

By boruta666, in Deathwatch

One of my players is within reach of SGW(Hero) talent, he is playing Blood Angels successor chapter Assault Marine and he wants his future Artificer Armour to be in form of Sanguinary Guard Armor. And that have given me little problem.

I already have story that he will acquisition it by opening one of hidden storage vaults in Erioch Fortress, guided by Sanguinius visions after drinking from "Chalice of Visions".

I already have some back story for armour, i also have equipment bonus for it, no problem thus far...

Problem lies within extremely ugly one nozzle jetpack looking more like traveling toilet strapped to back. And those stupid worthless wings. As for now i only have idea how use that equipment for jokes and little nastines i will throw at blood angel.

And question, anyone have idea how portrait sanguinary guard jetpack and wings in DW ? Or its better to cut them and put normal jetpack in that place ? Or some special rule for them ? im lost on ideas in that matter.

I'd just have it operate like a standard jetpack, personally. As for the look, do whatever, but if the player likes the look of the armor and jetpack, then what do you care about it?

How will the machine spirit of that armor feel about being painted black? I think it could look cool, but then again I'm not a bright and colorful piece of 40k heraldry either.

As for the wings, they're there to shock and intimidate- if you're going to go with Sanguinary Guard Armor, you may as well go all the way happy.gif

Well the Armour is:

Artificer Armour (Requisition 60)

Since he is an Assault Marine say the Chapter honours him with a new Jump Pack which does exactly the same thing, perhaps you might allow for a +10 to Pilot (Personal) for reaching that rank.

Angelus Boltgun is just a Forearm Mounted Boltgun, say requisition 20 for it being able to be forearm mounted

Both Angelus boltgun, glavie encarmine and MC jetpack was bought before Acquisition of SGW(hero) with remaining 2*SGW and SGW(master) talents. Glavie and boltgun will remain while jetpack will be replaced by one from armour set.

Or, you could use the versions I posted in the House Rules section a few months ago:

Glaive Encarmine (Blood Angels Relic)

These long, finely-balanced two-handed blades are ancient relics of the Blood Angels, each traditionally borne only by the chosen heroes who make up the Sanguinary Guard, an elite cadre of veterans whose legacy begins as Sanguinius' retinue during the Great Crusade.

Class Melee; Damage 2d10+8 E; Pen 8, Balanced, Power Field, Sanctified, Req 50, Renown Rank Hero

Angelus pattern Bolter

Used exclusively the Blood Angels and their successors, the Angelus pattern Bolter is a compact design, mounted upon the vambrace of the user's armour to leave their hands free. Traditionally carried only by Sanguinary Guard, allowing them to wield their two-handed Glaives Encarmine, these weapons sacrifice some of the range of a conventional Boltgun, but retain an effective rate of fire. To further enhance their effectiveness, they are loaded with the rare bloodshard shells, which are manufactured only by the Techmarines of the Blood Angels, their secrets passing to none but the Sons of Sanguinius. These shells contain a payload of monofilament wire which is cast out with great force upon detonation, tearing through flesh and armour with greater efficiency.

Angelus pattern Bolters are considered to be of at least Exceptional Craftsmanship, the effects of which are included below.

Bloodshard shells grant the Razor-Sharp quality to any bolt weapon they are loaded into. This effect has been included below. Bloodshard shells are not known to be used with any other form of Boltgun.

Class Basic; Range 40m; RoF S/2/4; Damage 2d10+5 X; Pen 4; Clip 20; Rld Full; Tearing, Razor-Sharp, Reliable; 14kg; Req 35; Renown Rank Famed

Beyond that, I'd say that the armour is standard Artificer Armour in function, possibly with certain pre-chosen Armour Histories appropriate to the Sanguinary Guard (A Fury Like Lightning and Thy Strength Be Legend seem appropriately grand for them), but the Jump Pack is essentially Master-Crafted (requires Distinguished renown and has a Requisition of 30), adding a +10 bonus to all Pilot (Personal) Tests made to use it and granting an effective +1 to Agility Bonus for the purposes of movement, before doubling that movement for the Jump Pack (so an Ag50 Blood Angel could move 12m as a half action with it).

The only change I'd make to the above is have the Glaive Encarmine be a Two-Handed weapon, or, at the very least, have a split profile between One-Handed and Two-Handed use.

And given that Rites of Battle has hinted at alternate ranks like Sanguinary Guard, this all might be moot in a couple of months. gran_risa.gif

BYE

Our version of Glavie Encarmine is just Exceptional 2h powersword (dam 1d10+6E, pen:8, unbalanced, power field, +5WS cost 40p, only signature wargear (master)) if it would cost more it would needed SGW(hero) and higher renown rank. (our house rule gives 2h weapon increased S bonus multiplier)

Angelus boltgun on other hand is just exceptional arm mounted Bolter, only difference to original bolter is 70 range and cost of 15 or 20 for MC. (our house rule state bolter as S/3/-)

It is a two-handed weapon. Hence the use of those words in the text. There isn't actually a discrete weapon quality "two-handed", so it isn't mentioned in the weapon's profile.

It's not, actually - the text in the Blood Angels codex describes them using specialised, unique ammunition, further distinguishing them from bolters.

I must say, Mr Dowdell, that everytime you post you un-official rules I'm surprised by two things. The quality of your work, and how similar your interpretation of things like wargear, profiles and everything else is to mine.

I for one would be very interrested in seeing a thread with all your collected houserules, items, adversariest etc. If you ever find the time for something like this, I'd be very grateful!

Yes they use unique ammunition in TT, Bloodshards. But its only ammo.
