Monster Vault - How do you know which powers to use?

By Nytakriss, in WFRP Rules Questions

I've just started playing and recently picked up the monster vault & book. Looking through it, most of the contents have been previously published. In the earlier entries the actions for each group of creatures was included but they are not present in the monster book. So, what are the default actions for the new creatures such as dark elves that have not been previously published?

Also, the actions in the book don't quite match the cards, I'm missing one card (I think its the dragonscale cloak action) and have 4 cards that don't appear in the book. I emailed customer services but got no reply. Anyone else noticed this?

Yep, there is a thread that is tracking the inconsistenices between the various vaults and guides here:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=149&efcid=3&efidt=421852

I'd also noticed that the default actions aren't listed clearly in the guide. I think the idea is that FFG is suggesting you can pick and choose which actions to give based on the traits on the cards or the Used By: notation in the cards and appendix, but there is no clear indication of how many you can/shouls give?

It also makes the additional action cards you can get based on the creature cards in the vault a little non-sensical too, as although it givesyou an idea of which and how many extra actions you can give, as you've already spotted, if you can't work out what the default cards are, you've no idea what you are adding too...

This works for creatures that have been listed in a book previously with their default actions, but for completely new creatures the process falls down completely.

Perhaps FFG (or a fan) can come up with a sensible list of default actions for each of the new creatures. Shouldn't be too difficult, I might give it a go myself when i have time, if I do I'll post...

Here is my list for all the actions for previously published monsters which may be of help. Sorry about the format but it does not copy to the post from my word doc. I do intend to do suggested cards for the new monsters and will post these when I do them but real life is a bit to busy for me at the moment.

Great post ! I was about to write down that list ! THANKS A LOT !!

This is a great post, I will see about putting it into XLS and creating tabs for the groups.. I for one tire of digging through 200 cards looking for the keyword Beastman... and then forgetting to dig out any spells for the cult leader...

Hot tip:

Get a binder and a bunch of Ultra PRO 9-pocket sleeves (like this http://www.iguk.co.uk/ProductImages2/482.jpg ). Put all the cards with the same keyword together and then it's easy to find all the Beastmen-actions by just flipping through the binder.

I use it for Creature cards, locations, items and creature actions. I'm also thinking about doing the same thing for all the other action cards too so the players can flip through the avaliable cards in an organized way. The cards fit in the pockets even when they are in deck proctectors, so no problem there.

There is a link to the list in the Fan ERRATA/FAQ document: docs.google.com/document/pub
