Winning Challenges with Characters Removed

By lahomen, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Here's the situation:

My opponent has one character, and declares a military challenge with him. I have two characters in play, one with a military icon, and one with an intrigue icon. I also have A Game of Cyvasse (Challenges: Each player must choose and kneel a character with an Intrigue icon he or she controls, if able. Then, the player who knelt the character with the highest STR may choose and return a character to its owner's hand.) and A Gentle Prison (Challenges: Kneel 2 influence to stand a participating character and remove it from the current challenge. That character cannot be killed this phase) in my hand.

I want to win the challenge, but my military character has less strength. Do I win the challenge if:

1) Before declaring defenders, I play A Game of Cyvasse to remove his character from the challenge, giving him 0 str?

2) After declaring a defender, I play A Game of Cyvasse to remove his character from the challenge, giving him 0 str?

3) Does the result change if I instead play A Gentle Prison, removing the character from the challenge but not from the table?

Thanks ktom. So many of these basic Thrones questions get muddled for me, because I took some time off from Thrones to play some other card games with different (and usually less intuitive) rules. Just picked up the newest batch of CPs, and trying to catch back up. cool.gif
