Simple Questions

By Trish's Boyfriend, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

You know, there is a spell "The Red sign of Shudde M'ell". Does it work to a monster even if the monster is not in the same location?

And another question is.. when I come back to any location where has 1 or more clue tokens,(except any location with an opened gate) from Lost in Time and Space, Can I get those tokens in Upkeep Phase? or Should I stay there in order to get the tokens?

Unless a card says it targets a monster elsewhere, it will only work on your current space.

You have to stay in the location to keep the clues, as clues are only taken during the movement phase (or when dropped on you during the Mythos phase).

Was this changed recently? I mean, I've always thought that you pick up clues whenever you enter a location (an encounter sending you to a new location to have an encounter there allows you to gather the clues eventually present on that location too).

Last I knew, when an encounter sends you to a location, you avoid the monsters and the clues there. I know, this ruling has changed a bit over the years, and I'm sure the future FAQ will solve it once and for all. But when you come out of LiTaS, it's the upkeep phase. Allowing the investigator to grab clues immediately would meant that the investigator could get clues from two locations, which is too much of a benefit for being LiTaS.

I've been playing that encounters that send you to locations will force you to fight the monsters and allow you to take the clues because it makes thematic sense.

That's what I thought also. Whenever I enter any location (LiTaS, Arkham encounters, or other means), I immediately fight/evade any monsters and pick up any clue tokens there. Is there any special exceptions to this rule, or have I been playing this game wrong for two years? sorpresa.gif

RAW you can only pick up Clues when ending your movement (it is under Movement Phase, so arguably only applies to that phase movement) in a space or if the Mythos card drops them on you.

This. At least, that's just what the rules say! I know plenty of people play by the "at the end of any phase" house rule, where you pick up any clue tokens in your current location at the end of any phase. Kinda simplifies things, though it's not standard by the rulebook (which is just fine, as we all know!)

I see. And I must confess I've always played this wrong :-/ 70 games played (more or less) and still doing stupid errors with the basics ::shock:: I've always played that you move from LiTaS during the Movement Phase, not the Upkeep, and so there is no way you can obtain clues from two locations. But yeah, if you return from LiTaS during the Upkeep, it has sense. Thanks for clarifying (homework: reading again the dam(n) rules)

Yep, this is the way I've always played too. And if FAQ will override this, I'll house-rule it the other way

Curious question: If you get an encounter that takes you to a gate, do you battle the monsters before you go in the gate, also? This is assuming the card tells you to have an encounter in that location, of course!

The answer to that is the same as the to the question: "do you deal with monsters and clues before getting the encounter." So far, we don't know for sure.

Oh, no, sorry, I meant you, personally :-)

Oh. Well the situation is exactly the same except that instead of a random encounter, you enter the gate. So yes, I personally deal with all the monsters there. In last night's game an investigator 2 clues short of sealing got such an encounter, and moved to a gate with a Warlock on it. She beat the Warlock and entered the gate. Good times.

Ah, okay. Neat. Sorry, I just like to see the different things people do with the game. Thanks ^_^
