Need help here please

By johnycage, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello guys, I just bough Descente: Journeys in the dark The road to Legend Expansion because i really wanted to play a boardgame. My problem is that, although this is an expansion, there are no heroes in this expansion, so i need to buy the Descent: Journeys in the dark game first? Can´t i Buy the heroes' miniatures separately?

I would appreciate some help, since i dont know what to do, I tought that i could play this...

I am from Portugal, and the only Descente game available on the store was this expansion.

Have a nice year everyone

Road to Legend is an expansion and does require Descent:JITD. None of the expansions include the plethora of pieces that is needed to play the game.

Yeah. Sorry, but you can't play RtL, or any of the expansions, without the base game. Just cannot physically do it.

That aside, RtL is an Advanced Campaign. It isn't really advisable to start playing it without having a very solid grasp of the base game anyway. Seriously, no matter how experienced, smart and capable you are.

Sorry for the lack of sugar coating, but the simple fact is you made an unfortunate purchasing mistake. (For now, it is an awesome game later, once you have the base game (so you can play RtL at all) and have played the base game a bit (so you have a solid enough grasp of the mechanics to make good strategic decisions to adapt your tactical play).

Without the base game you will also find yourself without a large number of tiles required to build the maps, without hero AND monster figures, without most skill cards, without most of the treasure cards (did RtL have any treasures in it?), without the base dice required to roll attacks and without the vast majority of other tokens you need to track the game. You will have large denominations of gold and wounds, since RtL included those, but you'll have few if any singles and small change tokens.

Road to Legend is an expansion set, so yes you will need the base game. Unless there's been a horrendous guffaw in the translation department (not unheard of, btw) it should say that it requires the base game on the back of the box. FFG has a policy of not making one expansion dependent on another, so the ONLY thing you'll need is the base game, but that's about the best news there is.

There are no heroes sold separately, and even if there were, heroes alone are not by any means the only thing you're missing.
