decrease maximum stamina -> increase maximum stamina

By nickcv, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

hi everybody, i just got this great game for xmas and i'm having a blast playing it (i already purchased the first 3 expansions).

I have just a couple of simple questions, even i think that i already know the answer of them, but i wanted to be absolutely sure about it.

let's say that because of an ambient myth card your maximum stamina is decreased by one point (the myth card was about some weird mist, i don't really remember right now) do you regain automatically the missing point once the ambient card is discarded?

(i personally think you don't)

an encounter card in the other world (i'm not sure about what's the word you use to describe the locations on the right side of the board in the english version of the game) said that the investigator had to pass a speed check because the gate was closing in front of him. If you pass the check you get out of the gate and go back to arkham, otherwise you are lost in time and space. Either way the gate is closed.

Does the investigator gets a gate trophy?

(i think you are not supposed to take it, because you are not actually the one closing the gate)

Thanks guys for your help gran_risa.gif

ps: i'm sorry for my english

ciao

The Mythos card you're thinking about is "A Dark Wind Covers Arkham." The answer to your question is no, because the general rule is that whenever your maximum sanity/stamina is increased, you do not also "heal" that extra point—you have to do that yourself. In this situation you're technically "gaining" a maximum stamina when the Mythos card goes away. The most important exception to this is that if you start with an ally that increases a maximum, you still start at full (such as Ashcan Pete with his dog Duke). The other exception is an expansion character, Lily Chen.

With that specific gate encounter, note that you cannot seal it even if you have clues or an elder sign. To answer your question, my play team only gives the trophy to the investigator if the circumstance makes it obvious that "you" close the gate. The wording on this card implies that you are responsible for closing the gate whether you pass or fail the check. If there's an official answer to this question, I don't know it.

thanks for the answer Tibs!
