Hunter - Need comments :-)

By Mr. Brogger, in Talisman Home Brews

Hi all, I am considering to make an illustration for this character and also a miniature. I need some comments.

Hmmm... I don't know... trap seems too much like assassinate with an attribute test (probably the way assassinate should've been done). Perhaps a hunter might have a tracking ability instead to go along with the evade in woods and forest.... though I have no idea how to do that in Talisman's mixed up movement mechanics.

Ahh, I like the tracking idea, but I have to think about a mechanic. You are rigth that the trap ability is very close to the assassins ability and have thougt about that myself. I try to figure out something else that could be cool. Thanks for your comment and I love to see more and more ideas are also welcome :-)

cheers

I love the idea of this character. I also like the ideas of evade in the forest or woods and the tracking ability. I have tried to think of a mechanic for it as well but haven't as of the moment come up with anything solid. I would think though that to figure it out one would have to ask a couple of questions like:

1. What is it he would be tracking? (Ex: Player Character, Monster, Animal, etc.)

2.How is this ability handled? (Ex: Die roll, token or card discard, etc.)

I know this is now an answer but maybe a solution to figuring it out. :)

Peace, Drenik

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Because of your comments I startet to get a whole new idea that I just had to build up and startet to create a new kind of character. You can find him on the topic here.

Thanks and cheers

I think the only ability ever seen that was similar to "tracking" was I believe Ninja's ability to "shadow" another character that moves off of its space. I think to do so it had to forfeit encountering the space it landed on. So here's a "tracking" notion...

"When another character leaves your space, on your next turn you may attempt to track it. If your movement roll result could take you to or beyond where that character landed, you may stop short on its space."

Here's another option...

"When another character leaves your space, on your next turn you may attempt to track it. Sacrifice your movement roll and roll two dice below your Craft. If you succeed, move to that characters space. If you fail, you miss your turn."

ADDENDUM: Just looked at your bounty hunter and see that we think along the same lines. The problem with any kind of tracking (or shadowing) is that it is a dangerous ability. It allows the character to continue harassing another. The addition of the other character having to be on and then leave the trackers space limits this. A craft roll of some kind is also good. And perhaps it should be handled somewhat like a Psychic Combat??? That way it considers both the tracker's and targets Craft. If you defeat the other character... you get to follow it. And maybe the trackers turn should end no matter what.

Isn´t that the ability of the spy also? I think it is a rather cool ability, but didn´t do any harm to the other character moving from the space your are on.
