stahleck 2010 - retrospection

By thorondor, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

at the end of the year i would like to share with you a look back at the wonderful time we spent at castle stahleck this year.
unfortunately FFG didnt publish a report about this event, but its all there.
so if you feel a little bit nostalgic and want to bring back some memories, go to the stahleck homepage and have a look at the archive section:
http://www.eaglecard.org/tourneyofstahleck/links.html
you will find lots of stuff there, containing reports (including decklists), results and photos.
there is even a video about the AGOT final & the sunday prize ceremony (warning: this is very amateur-like!! i didnt know the voice was recorded as well all the time, but its in german):

now lets have a look into the future.
there will be some more Stahleck events in 2011 for all LCGs of course. however, it will be different. most likely there will be 2 events:
- 14-16 Oct 2011 (AGOT+LOTR)
- 18-20 Nov 2011 (WHI+COC)

but note, that nothing is set in stone yet!! things might still change alot ...

all the best for 2011.
hope to see you at the castle again.

I'm courious: what about LOTR? Regular tournament? Or it's just "wait and see what FFG can offer for organized play"?

As I already told you so disappointed that FFG ignored the tourney and didn't publish a line. Every month in Spain there are tourney with as many players than worlds... French has similar number. In italy we have tourney of 20 people so we are a little bit behind (but soon we will have game translated so hope we can improve)... anyway numbers are just numbers... but a little bit more consideration would be appreciated.

About 2011 European I'm very happy LOTR is paired with throne so I don't have to take 2 flights ;-)

@Rogue: I think no OP final rule has been decided for LOTR, but I'm quite sure, as told in other topics, there will be special Quest to do. People that will win the quest with the best score (I think something will determinate it) are the winner... Since the game is 1-4 players I think they will have to decide how to squad (2-4 players???).

Anyway can't wait about the game coming out...

a change has been made!!

the date for the AGOT Stahleck tourney is going to be 18-20 Nov 2011 !!!

there is space for up to 120 players, thats going to be interesting ...

As I say every year, I can't wait to turn 40! I think I have my wife convienced that I could do this trip/tourney then.

Unluckily, that is over 4 years away sad.gif

I agree, I would love to hear more about the European tourneys (especially this one, easily the coolest CCG/LCG/TCG tourney I have heard about). However, again let's remember they do have reasons, probably some we don't even know about (i.e. I have a feeling that domestic sales/profits drive the game, no matter what the tourney scene is).

keep a place for italian crew :-)

This is going to sound like a really bizarre question for you Europeans, but what kinds of cell phones are you using, if any? Do you typically use Android phones, or are there Windows Phone 7s, or iPhones, or none of the above? Gualdo, I'm sure you made your own phone and it has a single Rorge stuck in it, but I'd like to know if there's a market for a phone app for AGOT here or not. :)

You are probably right on this. Salesprofit drive the game, but if I were a business man I think I wouldn't pass on an opportunity to promote what I am selling without spending an extra cent.

Showing interest in what is happening outside of the US circuit, by publishing tournament reports and deck lists costs ZERO to FFG and would help to promote the game in Europe and also would show us the european players some love...

I can't think of a good reason then why this is not being done...

Oh, I totally agree. Even just getting some 'card of the week' articles out of Europe would be cool, and free for FFG. They run on a pretty tight budget (FFG has more disipline than 99% of gaming companies IMHO) so they focus mostly on getting sets out (look at the 'OP', or lack thereof anywhere), but there are cheap/easy opportunities for sure.

I use a normal 30 euro phone :-) I don't know if there is a market for an AGOT app... anyway Iphone and android are so common now... all my friends has at least one of them... i'm the only one that doesn't use phone :-)

Umm... I'd love an Android AGoT app. Sadly, you only asked for European opinions..... :P

What would you like the Android App to do? I've been developing for Android powered devices professionally for the past year or so and wouldn't mind to brew something up :)

Ummm...... be awesome? Lol. Hmmm.... that's a good question that I think I'll need to ponder a little further. Of course a card and rule database would be a great resource to have handy for TO duties during events.

I don't have one of them fancy smartphones, but if I did, I'd want a deck builder app/card database (see deck builder on Darksbane's site), so I could throw together ideas when not at home.

Although it isn't optomized to be viewed on a mobile phone, the deckbuilder on my site should be mostly functional on mobile phones and tablets. The only thing that doesn't work on the Iphone/Ipad is the charts (no flash) . Android phones/tablets should be similar. Also the card database search does have a smartphone ready interface.

  1. A quick search/look-up for FAQs/rulings . Basically, a search engine that searches FFG's rules documents and the FFG forums (for "unofficial rulings"). I would find this *very* useful, as it often takes more than 5 minutes to track down an obscure ruling. (As part of this, I think including a chart for the timing would be very useful, so that people don't have to scroll through tons of pages of FAQ just to get to the timing section.)
  2. A non-web based card lookup . I like Darkbane's website, but when my phone reception is poor, looking up cards can move slowly, I think in part because it loads the images. Also, I spend a lot of time riding subways where there is no reception. Having an AGOT app that I could use to build decks would be pretty neat in that situation.
  3. A deckbuilder that is intended/optimized for mobile devices . The existing deck builders cause me to either zoom way out (to the point that touching the right links on the screen is tricky) or scroll back and forth across the page to use the full functionality. Part of the problem, I think, is having pictures' images show up on the mobile device. The photos are cool but just take up too much screen space. I have noticed more critical issues with using a mobile device as well...at times it's tricky to scroll through a widget-based scroll online. The touch screen wants to move the whole page around, when all I want to do is scroll through a widget-based list on the page.

None of these are major issues, but I would definitely get use out of a mobile app. Honestly, we're talking more about improving convenience vs. adding functionality though, so I'm not sure it'd be worth hundreds of hours of code writing just to save a few minutes here and there.
