Do you need Pegasus to play Exodus?

By Gravnos2, in Battlestar Galactica

Hello!

The Exodus expansion looks pretty interesting to me, but after reading the Pegasus rule book (We have not picked it up or tried it out yet though!) I didn't think it looked all that fun.

Am I overlooking the awesomeness of Pegasus and if so what makes it great, and should I just skip it?

I personally LOVE Pegasus, it adds a lot of fire power and aid to the humans. But that's one reason some don't like it because it removes the need for pilots. My group hasn't used New Caprica but it looks fun even though it adds to the length of the game. The Cylon Leaders are a nice addition. If you can afford it, get both expansions.

In my opinion, the one thing that makes Pegasus indispensable is the sympathetic Cylon Leaders, which, though not perfect, are the best way to play a 4 or 6 player game. The rest of it's okay; if it turns out that space combat in Exodus doesn't heavily favor the cylons, and if you're not interested the added variety of characters, crises, and skill cards, then there's not much else it'll do for you.

No, you don't need the Pegasus expansion to play Exodus.

If you have never played either expansion, I'd recommend not trying to learn both at the same time.

You reach New Caprica at distance 7 (instead of 8 for the normal game end)

Once the Human players are familiar with the new actions, it takes about as long as the final jump by Galatica. So overall New Caprica reduces the game length.
