Unused RTL tiles

By TimCAD, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm in the process of building a Descent tileset out of Hirst arts molds for our Descent group. The core game was easy and straightforward. However I'm looking at certain expansions (specifically RtL), and I'm noticing certain special tiles which I cannot find used in any dungeon.

For instance some of the corridors with built-in pit tiles in a checkered pattern. I don't see those in any of the dungeons in the RtL book. Are there certain tiles in the game which just never get used?

The checkered tiles are used in a rumor which i don't remember exactly but if you look you will find it.

Ahh, yep, Rumor 9! I missed it because they have so much stuff piled on those tiles in the setup. Thanks!

Ya we played that Rumor the other day and we were about half way through the crawl before i noticed while reading the room description that it talked about the checkerboard. Luckily the door wasnt opened yet so nothing was effected, just had to swap out the map pieces. ( always important to pre read the quest)

I think this is actually the most annoying thing to me regarding RtL. All the **** unique tiles. I can understand having a few such tiles, but when EVERY tile has a unique printing, it just becomes a pain. Now I have to look for this specific tile instead of just any old corridor.

It's even worse for outdoor encounters where there isn't even a single tile that's not unique (except the dead ends.)

I would have vastly preferred if they had made the outdoor tiles generic and asked us to use the obstacle tokens for water and mud and so on during map construction. It's not like we're running out of them.

I still haven't found a dungeon that calls for the 2x8 corridor that has sort of a [ shaped pit running down it lengthwise.

Has anyone every put together a list of the absolute minimum number of each tile that you would need to run all of the dungeons in the core game and its expansions (excluding the quest compendium)?

Not to thread hijack or anything, but since it is related:

Speaking of unused RtL tokens, I have not seen a use for the scroll tokens from RtL.

I also just found the use for the "Environmental" tokens, ie; the fire, leaf and so forth. They are the temples in the "Ascension" plot.

The scroll tokens are used in the "Eternal Night" plot.

I'm preparing to start a similar project. I would really appreciate any plans or advice for the expansions please.
