After the core set

By kingsoyboy, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello,

My friend and I just purchased 12 chapter packs for Christmas we've only played with the core set and are ready to take the plunge into deck building. So I have some questions that I'm hoping to get answered.

1. When stacking your deck can you put any card into your deck unless it says "House so-n-so only?

2. It says in the rules that if the card is a unique card then only one of them can be in play except its duplicate. So if my opponent has Rob Stark in play and I also had Rob Stark in my hand (because i stacked him in my deck as well) does that mean the card in my hand is now worthless?

3. Also I noticed on the form some of the players deck listings showed they had multiple characters (that were not unique) with 3 cards. So can you play all 3 side by side on the table or are these considered duplicated as well. And why only 3 duplicates? Why not 4 or 5 or can you not have more then 3 of the same card.

4. Also can you have multiples of locations as well? Like can I play 3 Bear Island locations, and if the requirements are met I could kill 3 people? What about having 3 brothels and kneeling 3 people every round? Also if by opponent has Bear Island in play can I also have a Bear Island location in play at the same time?

5 I guess I'm a little confused on what cards and how many cards of the same kind you can stack in your deck.

You might want to check out the rule book, page 24. The basic deck construction rules are there.

Yes. But remember the out of house gold penalty (rule book page 12, right column, in the middle).

No. Each deck is a separate entity. The rules about uniques and duplicates apply only to your deck. If your opponent has Robb in play or in his dead pile, you can still play Robb, too. Things get a bit more complicated if characters change control; see the FAQ for details.

They're not duplicates. You can play them independendtly from each other.

3 cards max. per title in your deck. See rulebook page 24.

Remember that the unique rule applies not to identical cards only, but to identical card titles. For example, the Gray Wind character from the Core Set and the Gray Wind attachment from Lords of Winter are considered to be the same card. That means you can only have three cards named Gray Wind in your deck, no matter which version, you cannot play Gray Wind the attachment anymore if Gray Wind the character is in your dead pile, but you can use the attachment as a duplicate for the character and vice versa.

Yes. you can have three copies of, say, Great Keep in play.

No. Bear Island is unique. You can use extra Bear Islands as duplicates, though, also dupes on locations may not make as much sense as ones on chars.

No. Lannispor Brothel is unique too, although the card you have may not say so. There has been an erratum on the card (sse the FAQ).

Yes. See above.

See rulebook, page 24. You should also check out the FAQ (available from the Support section of this site) you haven't done so, yet.

Thank you RATATOSKR for taking the time to answer my questions. I will check out the FAQ. section and I reread page 24 in the basic rule book. Thanks again I love this game.
