Best way to learn the game?

By Gravnos2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello all!

We had our first play through not long ago, and it turns out we were doing lots of stuff wrong! (Including trading clue tokens)

Is there a video we can use to learn, similar to the amazing Call of Cthulu Living Card game tutorial?

Thanks,

-Chris

I second this video set. A friend of mine watched it before he came over to play and was able to help me answer questions the rest of the group had.

Yes great tutorial I use it extensivley, the next time I play Ill be filming it also, so I can work out the kinks

Thanks alot guys, I'll check this out!

I had another silly question, but don't want to waste a new forum for it, so I'll ask here!

What investigator would you say it closest to 'Harry Dresden' think **** Tracy but can use magic. If there is somebody like this is one of the expansions I was thinking of getting it for that reason alone haha.

Also what expansion would you suggest for your first one, once the group has a few games under it's belt?

Thanks!

Most people will agree that Dunwich should be your first Large (big box) expansion. It adds a board, investigators, a few ancient ones, and adds some really fun things to gameplay. If you think the game is way too easy-peasy, you should try The King in Yellow as your first Small Box expansion. Adds plenty of new cards, and the Herald is unique, and can add a fair amount of difficulty (without being overwhelming). I also like Curse of the Dark Pharoh (and its Herald, which is free for download on this site), but I think I'm one of the few who think so. It doesn't add much difficulty, but adds some neat cards and some fun encounter cards.

A lot of people like Lurker (with or without a house-ruled herald) because they say it meshes well with most/all other expansions. I don't have it yet, so I can't comment :-)

If you feel VASTLY underwhelmed in difficulty, immediately pick up Innsmouth and Black Goat of the Woods and let the game remind you who's boss...

Im going to get Dunwich for my first expansion simply for the maddness/injury cards
