Freebooter group

By josefsj, in Rogue Trader

My group wants to run an all Freebooter group. I have read a couple threads in regards to Orks with people bostezo.gif on the Orks. I'm not real giddy on them myself as a GM....but whatever floats their boat.

So my question is....is there anyone else out here who runs an all Ork campaign? If so, how's it going? Any ideas to throw my way...adventure hooks and other ideas to keep them interested?

I've just a month into a more typical campaign, though one of the new players will be playing an ork that ens up marooned on board the ship.

However when we were discussing possible games the all ork game came up, but was discarded as either to short (everyone kills each other in the first session) or to rife with comedic mischief to be more than a few weeks kind of thing.

Possibly the best idea we came up with for playing orks without major adjustments to the basic RT rules is to have them be roving arms merchants of a sort. Only in this case they're as likely to be as much conmen as actual gun runners.

For example, they tow an old imperial wreck into a aystem with, preferably, no space forces of its own. They then put on a show of how their products drive away or even destroy the "oomie ship wot is attackin'" and then proceed to sell the awed natives shiny buzzing toys that half air defense guns, half stove pipes with eletrical buzzing things on them.

There's also the mercenary route. Where the orks are part of a larger free company, possibly composed of several species.

I think the best way to run an all orks group is to have them function as freelance mercenaries. have them bounce from system to system, offering their services to the highest bidder. this has the unique advantage of creating anything from a comedic romp to find some poor soul's lost cat (who was abducted by space pirates) to aiding imperial forces close the eye of terror, with some liberal help in the form of "Devine Intervenshun" by Mork.

Hey, cats are from Holy Terra, I'm sure they're worth a fortune.

That said, the mercenary idea sound fairly good, though there will be some trouble with them being aliens and all.

Another option is to do the Ork equivilent of RT. They command an Ork starship of some kind and go to different worlds waging war and looking for cool things that make big explosions and so on. They wouldn't have a Warrant, they'd just be the biggest Orks around. They could have something similar to a profit factor, but instead of representing wealth and favors it represents reputation and general fear and so on.

How bout this: A group of Kommandos who scout out good targets for a raid, go back to da 'Teef and get some unsuspectin' boss to raid the place, then go get themselves hired out at the scouted planet to stop the raid. Sneaky bitz, tricksy bits, and shooty bitz, and then you get paid at the end. No way to lose.

Unless the boss starts a Waaagh! or something.

Concept: WAAAAAAAAAAGH! Trader

Instead of a Rogue Trader, you have a Warboss. Instead of a Navigator you have a Weirdboy. Instead of an Explorator you got a Big Mek. Instead of a Voidmaster you got a Flyboy. Instead of an Arch-Militant you got a Kommando, Etc.

Profit Factor becomes WAAAAGGGH! rating. A WAAAAAGH! of 40 is not going to have as good gubbinz as a WAAAAGH! of 100.

A +10 in Intimidate for the Warboss (and a high STR/TOU rating...he is the "bigga one" after all) is a must to keep it from just turning into a player-versus-player'fest.

Endeavours -

LOOTIN'! (trade)

FIGHTIN'! (military)

FOR GORK AND MORK! (creed)

'ERE WE GO! (exploration)

BEIN' REAL SNEAKY LIKE (criminal)

That is a loss?

If you're fighting said boss, yes, it tend to be not in your favor.
