Deck building tool for windows (AGoTDB)

By Ankha3, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Hello all,

This is my first post on the international board, I visit more ofter the French one (for obvious reasons).

I just released the English version of my deck building tool that has been running until now (3 years) in French, and since no-one ever filled in that English database (at least in my tool), I did it myself ;)

It's a standalone application requiring Windows and the 3.5 .Net framework. If you run Vista or Seven, you shouldn't need to worry about that. And you may give a try using Mono if you're brave enough (as death awaits you with its big pointy teeth ;) ).

The tool allows you to search the database using advanced criteria and to build decks that display nicely.

You can save older versions of the deck if you decide to tweak it, and have a look to older versions in one click file. Since decks are language independant, so you can share them with anyone.

There are some testing feature included in it (such as drawing the opening hand and so on) and many export functionalities.

I'm interested in feedbacks, so don't hesitate to test it.

Some features are still missing (statistics are incomplete for instance) but I'm still working on it and performing regular updates.

It is free of course, and you may even download the source code if you're interested in.

You can download it there (please make sure to download the "EN" version):

Versions with the same revision number only differs by their database content; the tool uses your default Windows language.

Merry Christmas!

Beta 0.720 (Dec, 29 2010)
- Deckbuilder: improved the contrast between the forecolor and the backcolor of shadow cards
- Database fix: the power icons were not present (shame on me!)
- Bug fix: exclusion rules for integers would not work.

A new update is available at http://code.google.com/p/agotdb/downloads/list

Beta 0.721 (Dec, 30 2010)
- Added the LCG column and added the "LCG expansion sets only" checkbox in the Filters menu.
- Bug fix: Deckbuilder: loading an unknown card would result in errors.

If you think that there's some must-have features missing, feel free to ask!

Beta 0.722 (Dec, 30 2010)
- Localization EN: changed "Virtues" to "Crest"
- Deckbuilder: The draw simulator now displays the summary of the cards
- Deckbuilder: Added figures for traits, crests, icons and houses

Hi,

for those who tested it, I'd be glad to have feedbacks. :)

For the others, what tool (if any) do you use for deckbuilding? What do you like in them? What do you dislike?

Hi!

These days I've been seing you updating this thread but I hadn't tried the app. I've always used the OCTGN built-in deck manager but I decided to try this one you bring us. My thoughts on the English version (0.722):

  • I can't see any changes in "Virtues" or the figures for Crests, Traits, etc.
  • I miss a card preview (image), maybe on the right side of the text preview. Are you going to implement one? It would be really cool.
  • Constantly switching windows to add cards to the builder is annoying. It would be easier if you could add the card and instantly see the change without having to click on the deckbuilder window. Also, an option to add 2 or 3 cards with just one click would be nice

This being said, I wanted to thank you and your collaborators because of your great work and your initiative. I will keep an eye on your work and help you whenever I can happy.gif

Thank you a lot for your feedback.

From the release note:

Beta 0.722 (Dec, 30 2010)
- Localization EN: changed "Virtues" to "Crest"
=> The resource was changed on the card details, but I forgot to update the database who fills the drop-down lists. I'll fix that.

- Deckbuilder: Added figures for traits, crests, icons and houses
The figures are available in the "statistics" tab in the deckbuilder window.

I'll move them soon because right now you have to switch between the card text and the figures. I'll move them to the bottom panel I guess

In fact, it is implemented but I'm still thinking about where to put the images available for download, since they take a lot of space. There is also an integrated proxy generator (creates a pdf file with the cards to proxy) but for the same reason, you don't see it (yet).

I guess it will be available next week.

You don't need to switch between windows. Double-clicking on a card in any search list will add the card to the current deck. And if you want to see both windows at the same time, you can tile them of course.

I think I could give a try to some hovering ghost window with your current deck so you may always have the deck visible.
