Arbalests

By --JP, in Battlelore

WIth Bearded Brave, the arbalest is listed as rolling 1 die when moving. With 100 Years War, the arbalest is listed as unable to fire when moving.

Nothing on the Bearded Brave card indicates that rolling a die on the move is unique to dwarven units.

Is this a retrograde change to the 100 Years War arbalest?

The cards trump other written rules, and newer cards trump older cards. So if a weapon card says something different than a previous edition, I'd go with the newer one and retro-apply it.

I don't have BB yet so can't say for sure but, with the way you explain it, that's the way I'd read it.

perhaps dwarven engineering is much more acurate than human's, so a dwarven arbalest is quicker and can fire when it had been just moved, albeit with a mcuh worse precision.

Could it be that they where suppose to say crossbow like the dwarfs in the core set.

Then again they used the same specialist card as in the hundred years war, with only the text change, and they are blue banner.

Actually, a rule update was planned for a number of range weapons. The summary cards for the following range weapons Common Bow , Crossbow , Long Bow are amended as follows: Special: When used on the move the number of dice rolled is 1.

The Sling summary card as released in the Horrific Horde expansion is correct.

The Reflex Bow summary card is amended as follows: The line - Do not collect Lore tokens - is deleted from the card.

This of course is because all units will collect Lore tokens when in Melee and range weapon units do not collect Lore tokens when doing ranged combat (per Battle Savvy Troops rules).

The Arbalest summary card released in the Beaded Brave expansion is the correct version and takes precedence over the Arbalest card found in the Hundred Years War expansion.

We have been playing with these changes for some time now and all these were planned to be part of an updated edition for BattleLore. Of course, you can start enjoying them right now by amending your current summary cards.

Enjoy!

Wow!

Thanks for those clarifications Richard. Makes sense with the Battle Savvy rules.

*Cheeky mode on* Perhaps something to include in an upcoming 2nd Edition Battlelore??? gran_risa.gif I eagerly await Code of Chivalry and any and all other true Battlelore releases. *Cheeky mode off*

As one (more obvious) conclusion that one can draw is that the Dwarf Crossbowmen from the base set are still Crossbowmen despite sharing the same sculpt? I figure they probably are still Crossbowmen as we only have a Crossbow flag for them. But thought it was worth checking.

Cheers,
Ben.

New banner, same figure, but it all seems to work along with the Bolt Thrower unit that will need two crew figures.

Enjoy!
