By hopelessfuture, in Deathwatch

Evening all,

So I've been reading the spacewolf novels again recently and I'd forgotten how important each wolf's personal saga is to him, and how much the retelling of personal battles and victories is part of the chapters culture, how do you all think a spacewolf would deal with having his story unknown, unable to be told due to the vow of secrecy he takes upon joining the deaathwatch?

You could do it two ways, he could use allegory in his saga for his time in the Deathwatch OR, if that is too close to breaking the vow of secrecy, he could do what many great heroes have done, and his saga can include a "Time of questing and trial" where he goes away, and disappears from his Company's roster for many years, with no details aside from his leaving, only to return even more awesome than when he left (doing this, and the secrecy of what takes place during his time away with the Deathwatch) may even inspire more of his brothers in arms to join the Deathwatch, so that they too may take the journey that cannot be told.

He could record 'Time Served in Ordo Xenos' over and over until it filled about the right amount of space in his saga.

ie

I was a noob I killed orks.

I learned sniper rifles bla

h blah. newb stories newb (30 years as a marine)

stories etc I got promoted

I got to use bigger guns

I am a wolf man rawr (60 years)

etc still telling my story

and my record is getting

longer (90 years)

Time served in Ordo Xenos

Time served in Ordo Xenos

Purge the Alien (120 yers)

Time Served in Ordo Xenos

I returned to my clan brothers

and killed more orks. (150 years)

I love the "I am wolf man rawr" part of the saga.
