Favourite wargear?

By BrotharTearer, in Deathwatch

What's that piece of wargear you never go to a mission without?

I'm assuming speciality ammo and power weapons will be a rather popular choice.

What wargear with a higher renown (distinguished+) see use in kill-teams?

I wonder if anyone's taking terminator armour and a chainfist to any mission possible.

Edit: As a sidenote, you could share what you used the signature wargear talent on.

The talent specifies that it excludes special ammo, so no Signature wargear (Metal Storm) or anything like that.

I took signature wargear for my Stalker. I can get it at exceptional that way (I'm not renowned enough for MC just yet) and with SigWargear(Master) I get a +10 to hit.

I wasn't refering to what exactly people were using that talent for, just general wargear they took to missions (and that's signature wargear included). But I can see the mix-up. I'll rephrase it.

I GM so I can't answer that. However, as I mentioned in another thread before, as a player I'd love the master-crafted heavy bolter with Kraken or Vengeance rounds.

So far, I've only played a few games... but given we play RAW Righteous Fury and we've all just gotten the renown for it (In the last mission, due to our Devastator not being able to come, our GM gave us a shipment of storm bolters in addition to the bikes we needed for the mission), I can tell you with near-absolute certainty that everyone (barring our Devastator) will probably be picking up a Storm Bolter on our next mission. The sheer mass of d10s getting thrown, as well as the usually massive bonus to-hit, has lead to our Storm Bolters killing multiple hordes with disgusting ease, Tyranid Warriors in single Full-auto barrages, and even several Carnifexes and a Hive Tyrant... the last three in over only 2 turns.

As soon as my character can get the Pilot (Personal) skill, he'll also be picking up a Jetpack. I expect, given he is a Rune Priest, that higher quality Force weapons and a Psychic Hood will be favorites of his. My GM is also working on a homebrewed version of a Runic weapon, but I expect that might require Hero-level signature wargear...

My Iron Priest took signature Wargear: Heavy Astartes Flamer.
The most important wargear besides would be thze combi-tool as he doesn't have the servo harness and the +10 to techuse are too strong.

Apart from that I often choose charm, red-dot laser sight for the bolter or magnoculars.

Well, when playing a Techmarine, a combi-tool is a must, plus I usually take a few more doses of repair cement since it's my job to keep my Battle-Brother's gear in top form.

And I usually grab a chainsword too, since it suits my Black Templar's desire to rend the Emperor's foes in to gory little pieces.

Master crafted Combi Flamer with targeter as SWGM. (we are allowed only one basic weapon)

Combat Shield as SWG. (our variant, no forcefield, balanced, bonus reaction to parry/block)

Master crafted Power Sword or Power Axe as SWGM.

and never leave fortress without Auspex!

φ58-Omicron-Ω9 - Master-crafted Erioch -pattern Battle Servitor with a Multi-Melta and Backpack Ammo Supply.

Extrapolated how Servitor quality works from the rules in Into the Storm for Servitor Crew on pages 163-164 and adjusted stats accordingly.

-=Brother Praetus=-

Sig-Wargear (Master) my libby took Exceptional Quality Stormbolter w/red dot laser site & fire selector (though i rarely use it, it's in prep for Sig-Wargear Hhero later)

Sig-Wargear (Hero) will be terminator armor (I'm a dark angel... artificer armor is nice but... I already have a model in terminator armor with force axe & stormbolter lol).

Sig-Wargear (regular) will be a signum link most likely, though if I wait long enough to take it where I've already got the terminator armor it'll be a teleport homer... for emergency situations heh.

Hate to ruin your plans, but sadly, as I understand it, you can't use the talent to get a terminator armour, as it's 60 + minimum 40 on weapons (100+ total) req, which is more than the 70 or less the talent allows. Unless of course your GM has changed the talent and increased the allowed req with 30+.

You're correct, it's 60 + weapons (20 for stormbolter taken by other Sig Wargear, & 25 from force weapon which is standard kit for librarians)

As I play an Apothecary, the Diagnostor helmet is an automatic requisition. Since I'm from the Ravenguard, and becuase it's helpful in getting to my patients, I also usually pick up a jetpack (which means 30 requisition is immediately eaten up by my 'standard' equipment). I've signatured my Stalker pattern bolter (another item going with my Ravenguard background), so at least I don't have to worry about weapons. After that I usually get some useful items like a dataslate, cartograph, and a flamer for those truely abominable specimines that need immediate purging.

My helmet. Seriously, but with comedic intent.

Also? Auspex. My auspex is great, my auspex is mighty. Tech use was worth buying just so I can use an auspex.

As a Devastator, I take a bolter with metal storm bolts, and I put kraken bolts in my heavy bolter. One is for what I lovingly call "crowd control" and the other is for single, big targets.

Haha. Kudos. The Techpriest in my game requisitioned a Heavy Flamer to many raised eyebrows at the first session. He has used it to quite nasty effect, however.

My Space Wolf's Master req was a Thunder Hammer named Hoarmaul. He tends to not stray far from his Storm Shield, though. He has been able to at least stand up to some pretty powerful foes with that lovely piece of equipment.

His first "never-leave-home-without-it" piece was a Hand Flamer, though. It's great effects on Hordes combined with the mobility of his Jump Pack quickly had the other players stealing his kool-aid come the following Mission. Bastards. gui%C3%B1o.gif

You know, you only need to test Tech-Use with an auspex to perceive things normally undetectable right? Things like poison gases and radiation. As far as the +20 to Awareness it affords the user, there is no test required. That said, "test to detect things not normally detectable by human senses alone, such as invisible gases, nearby bio-signs, and ambient radiation" does still leave for a lot of possible tests.

Actually, I can easily see it as possible to get Terminator armour through wargear. It's 60 points so that's the talent used on it. Plus SWG for the storm bolter and more SWG for a powersword, or MWG for a storm shield or similar.

Chainsword with diapole, sormbolter, targeter, fire selector... that's the essentials covered. Maybe a heavy flamer too!

Things my Imperial Fist Devastator Brother Torres never leaves the ship without are:
Auspex, Vox caster, Combi-Tool and Teleport Homer. These four items are, imo, crucial to any mission.

Heavy weapon wise I've just used my Signature Wargear (Master) to purchase a Master Crafted Missile Launcher ('Traitors Lament') with the +10 to hit advantage applied. Haven’t had the chance to use it yet, but looking forward to popping some Krak missiles into a baddie or two.

My GM also let me use the remaining 20req points from Signature Wargear (Master) as an Elite advance to take a Master Crafted Astartes Shotgun ('Reaper') with a Chain melee attachment. He also let me apply an advantage to this weapon as well so I took 'Faith in your wargear' as I wasn't comfortable in taking the +10 to hit on a weapon with Scatter and for reasons that might be apparent as I go into a little bit of background detail with these two weapons.

The Missile Launcher: In the first session my GM ran individual 5minute scenes for each Kill Team member prior to their rotation into the Deathwatch. Brother Torres ''flashback' was his Tactical Squads position coming under assault by Iron Warriors during the assault on Thracia during the last black crusade. Anyway, long story short; mean ol' chaos Termies come storming out of a Land Raider and cutting his squad down as Brother Torres fired Krak round after Krak round before being laid low and his launcher destroyed. Cut to him as a member of Deathwatch repairing and scrimshawing designs onto it in memoriam of his fallen brothers with his free time.

Astartes Shotgun: Last session we were tasked to board a space hulk containing a pre-heresy imperial warship and 'take inventory' in case there was any archeotech aboard. The quickest way to achieve was to access the ships data core on the bridge.
So due to the close confines I elected to take a heavy flamer and as back up a shotgun (being a big shotgun fan in DH).

After running into the first couple of groups of 'stealers and the heavy flamer being slightly underwhelming to the point that both myself and the Assault Marine were on critical damage I shelved the flamer started using shotgun. Later on in the session myself and the Assault marine (still both badly wounded) where cut from the power house that is our Stormbolter toting, Counter attacking Space Wolf Grey Hunter (Tactical Marine) and facing down 4 Genestealers in some air ducts. That shotgun, passed between us, saved our hides and we both made it out of there alive (Hence the have Faith in your Wargear).

Anyway, that’s about it. Sorry about the length.
Mark

TLDR: MC Missile Launcher, MC Astartes Shotgun, Auspex, Combi Tool, Vox Caster, Teleport Homer.

Bolter+Scope with Metal storm, Stalker, Kraken.

Simple, spartan and satisfyingly effective.

Against the Tyranid threat replace Stalker with Hellfire.

Later on I hope to make it a Combi-plasma.

Yeah, DH Scum with Meathammer and Exterminator attached.

Echo this. (Hello Brother Apothecary!)

Don't forget to use the flamer for "recon by fire" LOL

My Space Wolf Tac Marine took this as his starting talent.

Basic Bolter w/Telescopic Sight (for long range takedowns) and a Mono-Close Combat Weapon Attachment

As a sanguinary priest (apothecary), I tend to play the rifleman, especially as my KT lacks a tactical marine. A Storm Bolter is too...... efficient to ever leave home without, and what apothecary wouldn't take a diagnostor helm, especially as they are dirt cheap. Also, a chainsword, as it goes nicely with the Flesh Tearer talent.

It may be quite vanilla, but my tac marine would not dream of heading out on a mission without his treasured boltgun, the Wrath of Salvius. It was first used in defense of Macragge against Behemoth, and was bestowed to Atraeus on his investiture as a full battle brother. He used it to great effect in the defense of Erebus on Tarsis Ultra, where it proved once again to have a vicious hunger for tyranid life. In the time he's served with the Deathwatch, the Wrath of Salvius has never failed to wound or kill any xenos that has come into its sights.

As a player, I plan to eventually swap in a storm bolter with motion predictor (if we ever advance far enough to acquire it), but for now I am quite happy with my trusty boltgun!

Well, a Master-Crafted Boltgun would get 10 out of 10 style points from me as a GM.
