Assault Op-Fire and now charges and Op-Fire

By Dogma79, in Tide of Iron

The basic rules state: The advance is not considered normal movement, and the advancing units are not subject to opportunity fire when advancing.

The normandy rules state: On his opponent’s turn, James’s squad is assaulted and forced to retreat. However, an American squad containing an officer on Op Fire is in line of sight of the charge. James fatigues this squad to detonate the charge and damage the assaulting squad.

Is this right???

That's a great question and here's my take:

On page "4" of the Normandy Rulebook, it says: "All components follow the standard TOI rules, unless otherwise stated."

I think that the example is clear that you can use OP Fire to trigger a charge during an advance to assault.

This is covered in the FAQ. The line should read:

However, a fresh American squad containing an officer is in line of sight of the charge. On his turn, James fatigues this squad to detonate the charge and damage the assaulting squad.

In the example the Demo squad moves up and places the demolition. The opponent then assaults that hex and makes James' squad retreat. The demo charge is still there and when it's James' turn to act next, he uses another fresh squad to blow the charges.

Hope that clears it up.

sloejack, thanks for clearing it up.

Makes more sense, basically, AFTER the assault is resolved, and the unit moves into the new space, a FRESH unit (not OP-FIRE) is used to trigger the charge.

Good stuff! Thanks!

Aaah. Very good. All things clear right now.
