1. Can I play warpstone excavation into an opponents battlefield?

(we played it you can because it is not a unit)

2. I am attacking my opponents quest zone, where he has 2 units on quests with 1 hit point a piece, and I am attacking with 10 points of damage. The question is I declare an attack against his quest zone and he declares no defenders even though he has two eligible units does the damage go right to the capital and burn it in one go or do I have to assign it to the units first even though he did not declare them as defenders?

(we played it only declared defenders took damage and his quests were able to accumulate resources)

1. No, you can't play regular support cards into your opponents zone. You can only play attachment/condition/disease cards onto your opponents units.

2. He does not have to block, and if he does not block, you cannot assign the combat damage to his units. His capital just burns.
