Problems with PDFs on iPad

By Shieldstromme, in Deathwatch

Just checking if anyone else is having issues with reading PDF's on iPad? I purchsed 'The Emperor Protects' as an electronic download, with the intention of reading on the iPad. Most of the text is OK but any box-out with a dark grey background and white text doesnt display the background (making it impossible to read). The PDF displays fine on the PC. Is this a problem with the iPad or how the PDF's are produced?

Anyone else got the same issue?

isnt apple determined to make sure the ipad doesnt work well with flash and adobe so they can promote there own systems?

Yep in a nutshell. So glad I don't do IT anymore.

To be fair the iPad displays MOST PDF's OK. Maybe I should try converting the document into another format?

I don't have any of the FFG PDF files, however I do have an iPad. To date the only issue I've had with it displaying PDF files seems largely based on what was used to create the file. I did a character sheet for my Rogue Trader character and saved to PDF out of Office 2010 and it didn't render correctly. I re-created the PDF using a freeware app and it displayed fine.

Also, are you using iBooks to read the files? If so, I HIGHLY suggest picking up GoodReader. It is a far superior product for PDF reading on the device (and supports DropBox natively, which is nice).

I've tried using iBooks and GoodReader (synced up with Dropbox!) and both are rendering content incorrectly. I'm thinking it's an issue with how FFG are creating their files? This isn't a complaint BTW, I know FFG cant be expected to make sure their PDF's can be read on a multitude of devices, but can anyone from FFG comment on how they produce their PDF's?

This is a real shame 'cause the iPad is great for gaming documents/character sheets etc.

You "might" be able to take the PDF, open it on your desktop, then print it to some manner of free PDF writer. Worth a shot at least.

I tried CutePDF writer - no luck: I'll try something else!

I am experiencing the same issue - I have tried multiple different PDF readers including good reader, adobe pdf reader, and iannotate and all of them are not displaying the pictures from the core rules. If you discover a way for it to work please post it here! I will do the same!

The same occurs with White Wolf PDFs, it seems to be a way that the iPad uses different layers in PDFs. Either way, it's an iPad/Apple problem.

Bought the Core Rulebook DW as pdf,

running on the iPad it had all the text sans the graphics (file displays as it should on a regular Mac and PC),

so it appears the iPad isn't the one reader to rule them all we money nerds wished it would be.....ah well.....

Wait, wait... Let me bask in the glory of affirmation. iPad sucks? Yeah!

Is anyone having this trouble on an Android device?

Other than the difficulty of reading a page formatted for 8.5" by 11" sheet of paper on a 4.3" widescreen, things look fine on my DROID X. Art is missing with QuickOffice , but Adobe for Android reads it all just fine, if a little slow to load a page.

I'm looking over other PDF readers for Android right now to see what might be less chunky to use if I decide to keep things on the little bugger. Thinking PdfDroid might be a good choice, if it truly lives up to its name.

EDIT: PdfDroid is not a good choice. Blurry image and the zoom function kind of sucks. Adobe it is for now.

Are there any android devices out there with ipad-sized screens currently?

I'm still drooling about the potential of Notion Ink's Adam. If only I were a sales rep! ;)
