Recruiting for an online game

@Akuma: I have been trying to post on RPGnet - made a new account yesterday and still unable to actually post. If anyone knows whats going on I'd be greatly appreciative! (And there has been no activation email)

Also, this may be a bit preemptive, but I have been looking to "get my feet wet" GMing 40k RP for some time now. So if you were to need/want any help or advice on world/campaign building, the lore, etc I would be more than happy to assist. I wouldn't want to actually GM gameplay, but I have a lot of story and campaign concepts as well as a near-encyclopedic knowledge of the 40k verse that may be of use to you!

I wouldn't worry too much about that. I've been playing 40k since 2nd edition at least, still have my old ratty copy of the Codex Imperialis somewhere around the house, and a veteran GM of some years now as well. I got it covered. ;p

I do want to say though that right now I'm thinking of going with your character as the Rogue Trader. Genzer Maroke has an interesting background that will make for a very interesting story, and the only other character I've accepted so far, who is a Seneschal with the Child of Dynasty background, will play a member of a distant branch of the family who has survived the Purge with you.

However, you shouldn't be too eager to fill in all the blanks of your character's backstory just yet - a general sense of the more important details is usually best at this point. A lot of players seem to get over-eager and write out a short novel to describe their character's roots, but to me a lot of these fine details are best left to come out during the game. That said, I like the details of the Maroke dynasty, being framed for heresy by rivals and purged by the Inquisition, and Genzer himself having a shady background in underworld smuggling before joining the Imperial Navy - I think it's a great place to start.

Also, what e-mail service have you been using?

The forum you chose seems to be down. You can create blogs/forums for free in other places. Perhaps you should have a backup in case their forum goes kablooey again.

Ah ok then Akuma, good to know you are a fellow 40k vet - although you've been playing longer than me actually. Great to know the campaign is in good hands!

gran_risa.gif Thats awesome thank you for your complements, its good to know that my efforts have not been wasted! I have been playing around with different variations and concepts for this character for weeks now, and I finally settled on this just a few days ago. And the whole Seneschal thing sounds amazing, the exact sort of thing I was hoping for to be honest. I deliberately left the exact number/identity of Genzer's living relatives unknown, for at the very least some interaction - little did I expect one might be a character!

Don't worry about me going nuts on the background, I made sure not to get into too many details or specifics as I was also hoping we would confer on meshing all our backgrounds together. Thats a big reason why there aren't any "canon" places or people in my concept, so that it could be "dropped" anywhere in the galaxy.

I honestly concurr 100% when it comes to the over-fleshed background dilemna. In my eyes its more of a framework from which to build a character from, and in the ideal situation combined with the other players to create a framework for the whole party's "story" or "background". I tried to lay out the primary events in his life without getting too specific, while also giving an idea of his personality through his actions and feelings.

That being said, is there any details or even rough ideas you would like me to go into a bit deeper? Or perhaps give more description of appearance, personality, or things like that? I assume we'd wait to do stats and stuff like that until the group was formed, to ensure we made a cohesive unit.

p.s. I'm using gmail as my primary right now, but I also have a yahoo account.

EDIT:

As bob said, we could create our own forum to use just for this campaign, if you want that is. I am sure it can be done easily and without a lot of time/effort. If you want help or someone to do this, just let me know.

Also, which books are you planning on using/allowing apart from the core one?

Would a DH charcter be acceptable, or would you like 'Pure' Rogue Trader chars?

i'll flesh out some of my previous concepts a little.

Explorator Mozig Beschauer : Mozig is born on a Thulian Explorator Vessel, one among numerous children born in a carefully prepared genetically controlled program. using forbidden lores collected in the Expanse. the Magos Prime of the ship wanted to satisfy the needs of a business associate, a powerful Crime baron of Identity yet unknown.
The Magos was discovered, and his mind wipped for tech-heresy by a Sollex Order Investigation team. They order did not destroyed the children though; finding some potential in them... Through a arduous and punishing education, they wanted to form spies and investigators, to survey and signal that Crime Baron and other hereteks.
Mozig is one of the three surviving children. He is a full fledged Magos Explorator, officially there to explore the Void to progress the Quest of Knowledge. But behind his excentric demeanor -he is quite absent minded as a consequence of his trials- , he is a bionic-enhanced bloodhound, hunting for hereteks in the Koronus Expanse. He is looking for a ship for the Expanse, especially for a Rogue Trader with hints of a shoddy reputation... After all, who has more chances to have information or encounter hereteks than a Rogue trader who think he is above the Law Imperialis ?

(for his Origins : Void Born, Unnatural Origin : False men, Criminal : Hunted by a Crime Baron; High Vendetta (as a free choice), Fear : Tormented by the Unspeakable).
For his demeanor, he is a quiet, absent minded, cheerful fellow. But beware : behind hides a stubborn and brillant investigator, more on the loock-out of Forbidden technological knowledges and who use it - to suppress them- than of Forgotten knowledges.

Missionary : Olaus Drakrenström : Olaus comes from a prestigious noble familly of Scintilla. When he was young, he was a womanizing hedonist, always on the lock-out of new drugs or expensive alcohols, fashionable clothes and thrilling experiences. Also, he is humanitarian.... litterally.
He was almost caught though when the Arbites arrested him with other nobles in the Underhive brothel where he partaked in his favourite meal. The scandal was hushed, but to avoid a major disgrace for his familly, he entered the orders and became a Missionary on his free will.
He hide his tendencies for many years, patiently climbing the stairs of the Eccliesarchy hierarchy, dissimulating his true nature throughout his training & ordination. For his flock, he is a good and faithfull priest ; in fact, he is a predator whith a perveted faith.
He believes sincerely in the God-Emperor, entirely, wholesomely, and preaches very well. But during his studies - when a Missionary learns how to convert many natives faiths to the Credo Imperialis and its many forms- he found about many bloody Imperial sanctionned cults, and thus chose a Creed which justify his appetite.
He is know deemed ready to preach His Word on heaten worlds, to bring them in His Flock. He is impatient to profit again of all his hedonistic pleasures far from the Imperium, and to feast on tender flesh... just as planned.
He is not a Fire-and-Brimestone preacher, and prefers a calm, placid, grand-fatherly attitude. But he will do anything to get secretly his greasy hands on anything shiny and have a lion share of it, and help the party to get more of it by all means necessary.
(Noble Born, In Service to the Throne : Born to Lead; Renegade: Recidivist ; Product of Ubringing : Decadent ; (Free choice) Exhilaration : No Joy Unexplored ; Lineage : A long and Glorious History : A Dark Secret)
basically, he looks a lot to this nice fellow :

That could be interesting, I would allow that as long as it fits the group. Also, because I recall someone asked, I also have access to Into The Storm and so I'lll allow stuff from that, (in fact I intend to make use of the Ship Roles mechanic) but I'm not super keen on Ork or Kroot characters.

I'm gonna be totally off topic here and wish you all a merry christmas :)

I'll continue the off-topicness and wish a Merry Christmas to all as well

Merry Christmas everyone !

To keep a little on topic, everyone who want to participate are invited to post the stats of their characters on the RPGnet thread. I think you can also do it here, if need be.

I might be interested, how many players do you already have? Also, are you using 100 points allocation for stats?

I'll get my character idea written on the RPGnet thread...tommorrow, today is CHRISTMAS

i might be interested, i got a ork freebooter.

Just to clarify for everone, AkumaKorgar is running this game and has posted the threads in each forum. Mordechai is one of the people "applying" (for lack of a better word) with character concepts to get into the game. So while I'm sure coming up with stats won't hurt, I don't think Akuma even asked for them.

Also, I believe Ork/Kroot are frowned upon.

I'm the qui proquo master, or what ? of course, i've never pretented to be the one running the thread : if anything I wrote let you think so, my sincere apologies. i wanted only, first to wish everyone a merry christmas, AND, as to stay a little on topic, to say that candidates can post their stats, as Akuma asked in this post on the RPGnet forum :

forum.rpg.net/showpost.php

just to give the info here if someone wasn't following the other tthread on the other forum.

Ok, I posted my far fetched idea on the RPGNet forums.

Some of my friends have asked me to gm a rt game for next year and i'm on my way to being ready to start so i'm going to withdraw. Good luck and have fun.

Does this mean there is room for me to join? I just got the books and haven't played yet or anything, so fairly inexperienced, but have read a bunch so think I have a decent grasp on things.

Wondering if there are any openings left in this game. I have a character ready to go if there is anything available.

This game has moved to another forum. Best to wander over there and check. I think we're full up at the moment though. (link is above somewhere)
