How many sets of dice ? ? ?

By Oathwin Oakheart, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hello All . . .

I have ordered all three of the guide books for Warhammer Fantasy and plan on getting Omens of War when it arrives.

How many sets of dice should I order ? ? ?

I was thinking that 3 would do.

The group I DM / GM for has 4 players.

We have been playing Pathfinder after ending a 2 year D & D 4E - Forgotten Realms campaign.

The group is looking forward to playing something a little darker . . .

Thanks.

I think you'll need at least 4 sets of dice, frustratingly: you only get one Challenge Die (purple die) per set, and the difficulties in the game system go up to Daunting (4d), so I'd consider 4 Challenge Dice the minimum. In practice, more is good, since some actions add their own extra Challenge Dice to the pool.

I do wish FFG would sell the dice individually from their online store; it'd be worth the price to be able to get the set you want without needing to buy tons of unnecessary Characteristic Dice (blue dice).

Thanks for the reply . . .

But it seems I will have to cancel my order for the three Warhammer Fantasy guide books.

- I am not happy about this at all ! ! ! -

Getting the Warhammer dice at a good price seems to be impossible in Canada.

Amazon.ca dosen't have a listing for them.

Amazon.com won't ship them to Canada ? ? ? Not sure why!

The shipping cost from FFG to Canada is too expensive.

I don't shop at the local gaming stores where I live . . .

- This is a long story. -

Looks like my gaming group will have to stick with D&D/4E and Pathfinder, just because of shipping issues!

We have the dice from the boxed set and the dice expansion pack. That's it and has been enough for 6 players. We may sometimes have to pass them around, but nobody's complained or decided the game wasn't for them because of the dice.

Heck, look at the faces, choose a corresponding number on a regular die and make a cheat sheet if you have trouble getting ahold of additional dice. Problem solved!

I have the dice from the core set, + 2 expansion sets of dice to share among myself and 3 players. That seems fine to us.

We have the same, and it works.

They're going to have to do something about the dice costs though, for those who use the guide books. The current cost of getting what you need buying dice expansions is ridiculous.

As a GM I have the standard set + 3 extra sets... for 3 players that is not enough. I am going to buy more because players having their own dice at all times can really save a lot of time. Each player will at most need (unless there are some special circumstances)

Blue: 6

Yellow: 4

Black: 10

White: 10

Purple: 4

Green: 6

Red: 6

That's what I want each of my players to have.
