2 Champs and a Chump- Episode 3

By Kennon, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

It's up! It seems like the website and the Feedburner feed have been updated properly as I can see episode three in Doubletwist, but iTunes seems to be pokey about updating their list, so it doesn't seem to be showing up there. I wonder if Apple really reviews every dang podcast before they allow it to go up?

We discuss the Of Sands and Snakes Chapter pack, and varying issues related to the cards in it.

Great job guys! This was definitely the best episode so far. The discussion is entertaining, and I learned a bit about the newest pack. There were definitely a couple cards that I will have to take another look at that I had already dismissed. The "new card perfume" idea sounds good too...might be a boon in a melee game :P

A couple other notes: You spent most of your time analyzing cards one-by-one, but in a couple cases you touched on deck building - either how an old decklist might be improved by a new card, or else new combinations to try. These tangents were actually really interesting, and I hope that you expand upon such discussions in future episodes. If time constraints are an issue, maybe you don't have to spend so much time on the newest chapter pack in future episodes? As a listener, I would find it more interesting if you spent some time discussing ongoing strategies/approaches to the game. For example, spend 5-10 minutes on answering questions like "which house runs Knights of Hollow Hill the best in your opinion (and which is the worst) and why," or "how do you add location control to a Targ or Martell deck, " or even "should I run Burning in the Sand AND Red Vengeance in my Martell deck...and if so, what events do I cut to give me space?" In fact, a very timely question to answer is "what tools does each house have to deal with Wildlings?" (Pit Vipers are great in Martell, and you mentioned the dothraki weapons in this episode. What about other options for these and other houses?)

I know many of the answers to such questions depend on the specific build/playstyle, but these are the types of conversations that I would find interesting, in addition to your discussion of the new cards. After all, you have one of the most successful metas. I would learn a lot from your perspectives on deck building and playing, rather than just snapshot views of new cards. (Your first episode had a bit more discussion of deck building, and why you were taking certain decks to the Ice and Fire event. That's one thing about that episode that I really liked, even if the conversation tended to drag on a bit.)

Overall, really great job. I'm looking forward to the next episode...will it come out a month from today?

We should release the next episode two weeks from today, that is our current schedule - every two weeks. Also, one of our future episodes will be out interview with George R R Martin. Also, we recorded another podcast BEFORE we recorded the Snakes and Sand one, but we chose to release the Snakes and Sand one first considering that chapter pack was just released. Interestingly, we reference that previous podcast in this one, but it just hasn't been aired. And yes, there is deck discussion and strategy in the upcoming podcast, as well as some other new bits.

Yes, we tried to make sure that we had a couple "in the can" so to speak so that if something like a holiday came up that would throw of our usual schedule, that it wouldn't have quite so bit of an impact. So, there will indeed be an episode released on the 31st.

Great episode. Sound quality was MUCH better than previous shows. More or less agree with Twn2dn, but you guys are doing a great job. Definitely looking forward to the "Dobbler's Dating Disasters" segment, lol.

The one "error" I heard and remember is about Alchemist's Shop . I forget who said it, but it seemed like someone was implying that "Your characters" and "you control" was redundant, unless I misunderstood what was being said. Anyway, it's not redundant and was probably intentional. It means that your characters won't get +2 STR and Deadly if they do not have Weapon attachments that are not under your control. For Example, if I put PInch of Powder on one of your characters and that is it's only Weapon Attachment, that character will not get +2 STR and Deadly because you do not control Pinch of Powder.

Yes, we're not as high tech as some of the other guys that we know down here who podcast (I'm looking at you, Bearswarm) but the sound quality like we're doing it now is a huge improvement and I've been pretty happy with it. I don't know, however, if we'll be able to keep it up if we attempt another roadtrip show.

I enjoyed it!

Glad Dobbler was there to throw cold water on the cards. There are 2-3 playable cards in the set (MAYBE 4-5 in theme decks that have not been filled in yet). ~**** combo players think everything is playable... gui%C3%B1o.gif

I will be down this Spring for one of these, and will bring a chapter pack. We will only discuss relevent cards and tear the rest up... happy.gif

~Maybe you can also host a new segment that talks about the strategies and wonders of melee; leading into a new spinoff podcast!

In the entire set? That seems extreme. There've been a ton of good cards in this set. Now this pack..... not so much.

Sorry, you are right - pack. The pack was pretty underwhelming ~except for the Snakes and Raiders of course!

I'll go out of my way to bring up melee any time Rings is on the podcast!
