Unnatural characteristic Will Power trait and the number of psychic powers available

By Thomas62, in Dark Heresy

I am currently adding better support for Traits to the NPC generator on malleus.dk and have a little "clarification issue".

When you select the "Unnatural characteristic Will Power" trait your Will Power doubles as well.

Does this doubling also count towards the number of psychic powers you can select from Psy Rating 1-6 ?

Opinions will be appreciated.

Technically, it would have to explicitly say in the text that the doubling of the bonus does not apply in that instance. Unnatural Characteristics double the bonus for all purposes, and only an exception would prevent that from being the case (See Unnatural Agility's interaction with character speed).

Good grief. Years of playing psykers and that completely escaped me, but by jove you're right! Why do I get the feeling this is going to get House Ruled before I can suddenly acquire 8 new psychic powers and laugh maniacally?

Hi Unusualsuspect - good point. Thanks.

Niqvah, you can always refer your GM to the rule interpretation on malleus.dk ;-)

I guess there are some powerful psykers on the horizon.

Techinically, yes it would, but you must get "unnatural willpower" before getting the Psy rating talents in order to take advantage of it. Don't forget each Psy Rating 1-6 has the special note at the bottom specifying "no retroactively gaining of additional powers later on if willpower bonus is raised".

Hi Quartermus - thanks for pointing this out. :)

The generator already resolves the current WP for each advance, so it is capable of handling this situation.

I currently plan to include it as an "extra starting trait" thing, thus it will not be eligable as an elite advance and it will also be available to each psy-rating advance.
