Rite of Sanctioning

By HPLustcraft, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

OK, I might very well have made a bad mistake here...

In my current game, the Rank 1 Astropath Transcendent has spent the 500xp to get the Rite of Sanctioning.

Of course, he chose the very first Psychic Phenomena, where a little wind goes by and everyone gets a little creeped out, and that's all.

Now, no matter how many times he Pushes his powers, MOST likely he will not get anything worse than this (although the few times he DOES, it will be MUCH worse, 75+)

I am thinking this may lead to a bit of a Psyker dominated game...Any suggestions?

After the game, in reading the description text, all it says is to 'choose' a Psychic Phenomena to be the 'default'...But it doesn't say whether the Player or the GM chooses it! Yikes! Did I screw up?

PS - Can Psychic Phenomena roles be re-rolled with Fate Points, by the way? If not, that may at least temper his recklessness somewhat...

The player chooses the effect. The whole point is to pick something harmless for psychic phenomena. However, it doesn't help on a roll of 75+... Particularly since you cannot use fate points to help. Look at p. 233 in the rules. Fate points allow you to reroll a failed test; and the key word is "test". If you're not rolling against a characteristic or skill, then forget using fate points. (I don't even allow my players to reroll failed acquisition tests, but that's just me.)

Whew! OK, so I did it right.

And good to know about the proper use of Fate Points...That makes it a bit more balanced.

He already has some VERY 'anti-psyker' people in the group, so in the end even mostly harmless effects will cause social issues.

Thanks for the assistance!

I house ruled that upon picking the talent, the player rolls sth like 1D50 + 10 and that's the result.
